Lost Boy, Rema, Daniel Pemberton Win ASCAP Awards – Music News
ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) today announced the UK recipients of its most prestigious honours.
Acclaimed British songwriter and producer Peter Rycroft, aka Lost Boy, has won a monumental four ASCAP awards, including the prestigious Songwriter of the Year. 2023 was a big year for Lost Boy, co-writing a string of hits including “10:35” for Tate McRae and Tiesto, and “Miracle” for Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, co-written by fellow award winner Pablo Bowman Navarro. The song spent eight weeks at number one in the UK, and Kylie Minogue's “Padam Padam” won him a Grammy. For each song, he won an ASCAP award for Hot Dance/Electronic Song.
Following a breakout year that saw the release of his fourth EP and a performance at the BRIT Awards, Rema won two ASCAP Awards, including the coveted Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song, for his smash hit “Calm Down,” alongside fellow winners and co-writers Michael “London” Hunter and Andre Vibes.
Elsewhere, renowned producer, songwriter and musician Steve Mac won Top Hot Dance/Electronic Song for his collaboration with stars like Anne-Marie, David Guetta and Koi LeRae on “Baby Don't Hurt Me,” while Eddie Jenkins, Andy Sheldrake, Camden Cox and Heyla won the Hot Dance/Electronic Song award for John Summit & Heyla's “Where You Are.”
In the world of TV, film and streaming, British composer Daniel Pemberton won Best Box Office Film of the Year for his acclaimed work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Pemberton's innovative music incorporates everything from punk rock to electronic music to traditional Indian instruments.
Additionally, the talented duo Julian Gyngell and Barry Stone won the Top Network Series award for the second year in a row for their theme song to the hit TV show American Idol.
The top grossing film of 2024 will go to Martin Phipps, composer of “Napoleon,” Patrick Johnson of “The Boogeyman,” and Joby Talbot, who composed the incredible score to “Wonka.” Paul Leonard Morgan will receive the top streaming film award for his crime thriller “The Boston Strangler,” based on a true story.
Top Streaming Series awards went to Anne Nikitin and Will Malone from Apple TV's global hit “Hijack,” Natalie Holt from “Loki,” and Andrew Skeete and Nathan Kline, the incredible music duo behind the Netflix documentary series “MH370.”
Two previously announced of the ASCAP community's most prestigious awards are also being presented today: South African-born British singer-songwriter and producer Kenya Grace is the recipient of the ASCAP Global Impact Award in recognition of her rapid rise to the forefront of dance music, and Irish indie-pop singer-songwriter Cian Duclot is the recipient of the ASCAP Vanguard Award, which recognizes artists whose innovative work is shaping the future of music.
This year's winners join previous British ASCAP Award winners such as Charlie XCX, Dua Lipa, MNEK, Lewis Capaldi, Dev Hynes and Becky Hill.
ASCAP will host a private event for its award-winning songwriters and composers tonight at The Shard in London. The event, which will also include a short performance from up-and-coming R&B/soul star Elmean, will highlight the incredible talent from the UK who has helped drive success in the US and recognition for their work in music, television and film.
