Sean Kingston arrested after Florida home raid – Music News

Sean Kingston was arrested in California on Thursday on fraud and theft charges, hours after his Florida home was raided.

Police issued an arrest warrant for the Beautiful Girls singer, whose real name is Kiseanne Anderson, after searching a rented mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida, and took him into custody in California hours later.

“This evening, police in Fort Irwin, California, arrested Kisean Anderson, aka Sean Kingston, without incident, on a Broward County Sheriff's Office warrant for multiple fraud and theft charges,” the Broward County Sheriff's Office confirmed to multiple media outlets. “According to investigators, he will be booked into the San Bernardino, California Jail.”

Early Thursday morning, 34-year-old mother Janice Turner was arrested on multiple fraud and theft charges during a raid at her Florida property.

Prior to his arrest, the creator of the hit song “Fire Burning” posted on his Instagram Story, “Y'all love the negative energy! I'm doing fine and so is my mom! My lawyer is handling everything right now.”

The raids and subsequent arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation that stemmed from a fraud and breach of contract lawsuit filed by Ver Ver Entertainment against Kingston in February.

The company's lawyer, Dennis Card, argued that Kingston was behind on payments for items in the house.

“He likes flashy trinkets, he likes to show off, he's a showman,” he told NBC 6 South Florida. “My client has a $150,000 TV sound system, he has a million-dollar watch in the box, he has an $80,000 custom bed ordered. This is an organized, systematic fraud.”

He told Miami's Local 10 News that the company hopes to retrieve the merchandise after the search.

“We know that our property is inside this house and as soon as the raids begin, we will send our staff in to restore the property and return it to its rightful owners,” he said.

Lady Gaga hints at possible new collaboration with Beyonce – Music News

Lady Gaga wants to record another single with Beyonce.

The two superstars previously teamed up for “Telephone” in 2010, with the “Bad Romance” hitmaker also featuring on his friend's song “Video Phone” in 2009, and after fans speculated they were recording a sequel earlier this year, the “A Star Is Born” actress hinted that it could be on the way.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “Any time Beyoncé calls, I want to answer the phone.”

The speculation began in February, when a Verizon ad teasing new music from Beyoncé debuted during the Super Bowl, leading fans to compare the motifs in the promotional images and video for “Cowboy Carter” to the vibe of the “Telephone” music video.

But while no new duets may be on the horizon, Lady Gaga hinted that fans won't have to wait too long for her seventh studio album, which follows 2020's Chromatica.

She said: “I've been working on new music and am really into it. I can't wait to share it with my fans.”

When a fan asked when the album, which she described as “a completely separate project,” would be released, she added: “People hate when I say 'soon,' but it's coming soon.”

Lady Gaga has been busy working on a new concert film, “The Chromatica Ball,” which will be released on HBO Max on May 25, and says she's “really excited” for fans to get an up-close look at every element of her live show.

She said: “I'm really looking forward to fans being able to see every detail of the show. There's only so much you can see in the stadium so we're really putting our all into it.”

“It's an experience you can't recreate unless you see it in this film. It's truly an experience you've never seen before, so I hope people enjoy it.”

He went on to say that he feels “ready” for love.

“And I've been saying this for years,” Renee revealed. “'I'm ready. I'm ready.' I wasn't ready. I thought I was ready, right? But I can tell you, I've never felt anything like I feel right now.”

Lady Gaga releases 'Chromatica Ball' film, reveals performance during coronavirus pandemic

With dark hair, bleached eyebrows and a white outfit inspired by car parts, Lady Gaga debuted her Gaga Chromatica Ball concert special in her signature style at a premiere for fans in Los Angeles on Thursday night.

The concert film follows Lady Gaga as she takes over Dodger Stadium during the Los Angeles leg of her 2022 Chromatica Ball Tour, performing her biggest hits and new songs from her 2020 album Chromatica. Lady Gaga's first-ever all-stadium tour consists of just 20 shows, kicking off in Germany in July 2022 and wrapping up in Miami two months later.

At the premiere, Lady Gaga quickly changed into a black outfit complete with a glittery mask after the red carpet and participated in a short Q&A with Access Hollywood's Scott Evans before the screening. Attendees were informed in advance that it would be a standing-room only event and were encouraged to dance throughout the film.

“I feel so blessed to be here with you all and I'm so excited,” Gaga told hundreds of fans. “It's been such a special time. This tour has come at a time when nobody thought we could tour. [amid the pandemic] “And we've had stadiums all over the world that are full, sold out, people dressed up, dancing and singing. We can't wait for people to see first-hand what we've created.”

During the chat, she revealed that she had “done five shows during the COVID pandemic,” explaining, “I told my whole team about it. I said, 'I don't want you to have a bad experience at work, you don't have to perform, you don't have to work that day, but the show is going to be done,' because I didn't want to disappoint my fans. And it seemed to me that all of my fans were putting themselves at risk every day to come to the shows.”

Reflecting on the tour, Gaga said that both the tour and the album “were the end of my life in a lot of ways and the beginning of a whole new era. And I feel like maybe that period was when I was just kind of saying goodbye to old wounds and scars and challenges. And this tour really allowed me to refresh and do something totally different.” She noted that the aesthetic of the tour was quite different from the album, acknowledging, “I think I had the courage to embrace this brutalist aesthetic, which I didn't have when I first put out the album.”

She also talked about the show's unique fashion, stage design and choreography (“It was the first time I'd ever toured in flats,” she joked), and why “Babylon” was the hardest song to perform.

When asked why she chose to release the tour as a concert film, Gaga explained, “Chromatica Ball was when I took myself to the next level and I felt it was worth documenting and showing to all the people I love. It's not that I haven't loved my other tours. I think we can all relate to the feeling that being personally proud of something and being proud of everyone around you are very different.”

“I think personal passion is a truly personal experience,” she continued. “I know there's a lot of stuff on the tour and the album that I was a part of that you all would have loved to see up close and personal, and I'm sorry that you didn't get to see it, but I want you to know that I'm true to this in every way that you're going to see.”

Gaga said, “I'm in the studio every day. I've written a lot of songs and produced a lot of songs, but this is completely different from anything I've ever done before. I love breaking genres and I love exploring music. It's really beautiful to know that no matter what I do, I'll be loved,” and thanked the audience for making her feel that way. Gaga added, “What I'm definitely exploring right now is the art of a certain intensity, and I think this art of intensity actually started during this tour, but it's not over yet.”

After the Q&A, fans danced to the film and stopped to take photos in an attached exhibit featuring many of the costumes from the tour. The Gaga Chromatica Ball premieres Saturday on HBO and is available to stream on Max.

Spotify vs. Apple Music: Which Has More Subscribers?

Spotify currently has more than 50 million paying subscribers in the U.S., according to recent data reviewed by Digital Music News, but Apple Music is larger in its most lucrative membership category.

In every discussion of the music industry, Spotify seems to be seen as the dominant giant in the streaming music space, but how dominant is it compared to rivals like Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music, especially in the US?

According to some royalty data shared by major publishers and verified by Digital Music News, the game appears to be more competitive than we previously thought.

Data shows (specifically from February of this year) that Spotify has more paid subscribers overall than Apple Music when weighted to take into account all plan packages (individual, family, student, etc.) However, when it comes to the most valuable package, the individual subscriber plan, Apple Music beats Spotify in the US.

Given the bitter battle currently brewing between Spotify and the music publishing industry, this revelation could have significant implications. Let's break down the numbers.

Spotify has roughly 50 million total subscribers in the U.S., far more than Apple Music's roughly 34 million. While that seems like a big lead, Spotify is being overtaken by Apple in the lucrative “individual subscriber” category.

In this key category, Spotify's subscriber numbers are not that high, at 20.2 million compared to Apple Music's 20.8 million.

Of the Apple Music total, 19.1 million are traditional individual subscriptions and about 1.73 million are packaged Apple One subscriptions that include Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, and iCloud at a discount.

Spotify's roughly 50 million total is backed by Family, Duo and Student plans which have certain multipliers or discounts applied for royalty calculation purposes (for example, the Family plan has a 1.75x multiplier applied by certain publishers, while the Student plan has a 0.5x multiplier).

More recently, National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) President David Israelite pointed to Spotify’s “approximately 50 million subscribers,” but data provided to DMN (with the appropriate multiplier) puts Spotify’s total subscriber count at just over 50 million.

Importantly, the royalty multiplier shared with DMN is a different methodology than Spotify applied. According to Spotify's financial disclosures, for Individual and Student plans, a subscriber is naturally counted as “1.” For Family and Duo plans, the number is determined by the actual number of family members or friends who join the account (for example, if only two additional family members join a plan that can accommodate up to six people, the total number of subscribers reported by Spotify will be three).

So, what does this mean for Spotify's market share?

This is a crucial question in the context of a heated legal battle between Spotify and the music publishing industry. In its recent lawsuit against Spotify, MLC estimated total damages from Spotify's bundled music plans and associated royalty discounts at approximately $150 million per year, although this figure may represent a more controlling position in market share.

Last year, NMPA tallied Spotify's U.S. subscriber base at 44.4 million, compared with Apple Music's 32.6 million. Based on those figures, Spotify is estimated to have roughly 38% of the market share of competing DSPs in the U.S., at least with the competing platforms introduced at the member meeting.

Please note that we are still collecting more detailed data on subscriber numbers for other streaming platforms, such as Amazon Music, for 2024. Stay tuned for the latest market share estimates.

Spotify has 239 million paying subscribers worldwide, according to the company's most recent quarterly earnings report.

This isn't the first time Apple Music has seriously challenged Spotify in the US.

In 2018, Digital Music News first reported that Apple Music had surpassed Spotify in total subscribers in the U.S. This followed an earlier report from The Wall Street Journal noting that Apple Music's subscriber numbers were growing at a faster rate. Since then, the two platforms have been in fierce competition, with Spotify in an antitrust battle with Apple in the U.S. and Europe.

Apple doesn't release music-specific subscriber data, and Spotify doesn't release U.S.-specific (or country-specific) subscriber information, and neither company agreed to share their U.S.-specific subscriber data for this article.

Rapper Sean Kingston arrested after Florida mansion raid

Sean Kingston was arrested in California on Thursday in connection with a search that took place at a Florida mansion earlier that day.

“This evening, police in Fort Irwin, California, arrested Kisean Anderson, aka Sean Kingston, without incident, on an arrest warrant issued by the Broward County Sheriff's Office for multiple fraud and theft charges,” spokeswoman Carrie Codd told Fox News Digital.

“Investigators say he will be booked into a prison in San Bernardino, California.”

Broward County Sheriff's Office officers and Davie Police SWAT members executed a search warrant at Kingston's Southwest Ranches residence on May 23, Public Information Officer Carrie Codd told Fox News Digital.

Kingston's mother, Janice Turner, was arrested early this morning at her South Florida home.

“Following an investigation that began in the City of Dania Beach, on the morning of May 23, detectives from the Broward County Sheriff's Office Dania Beach District, along with members of the Broward County Sheriff's Office Strategic Investigations Unit and Davie Police SWAT, executed an arrest and search warrant at a residence in Southwest Ranches,” Codd said in a statement.

“As a result of the investigation, an adult female, Janice Turner, was taken into custody on numerous counts of fraud and theft.”

The department said the investigation is “active and ongoing.”

A representative for Kingston did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

On the same day, Kingston posted on her Instagram Story, “Y'all love the negative energy! Me and my mom are doing great! My lawyers are handling everything right now.”

Kingston, whose real name is Xean Paul Anderson, rose to fame with his debut single “Beautiful Girls” in 2007. Since then, he has collaborated with Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj.

In 2011, Kingston was nearly killed in a jet ski accident in Miami when the watercraft he was riding crashed into a bridge in Miami Beach. He reportedly suffered a broken jaw and wrist, fluid in his lungs and was hospitalized for three weeks.

After a three-month investigation, authorities concluded Kingston did not understand basic boating safety procedures.

Mysterious shooting outside Army Special Forces barracks in North Carolina raises questions

The Army's Criminal Investigation Division and local police are investigating a mysterious shooting that occurred north of Fort Liberty, North Carolina (formerly Fort Bragg), not far from where America's most elite Special Operations forces live and train. The shooting in Carthage, North Carolina, happened at 8:15 p.m. on May 3rd after a call was received reporting a trespasser near the Special Operations soldiers' compound.

Two Chechen men speaking broken English were found near the soldier's home. Family members claim the suspected intruder, Ramzan Daraev, 35, of Chicago, had been taking photos of their children. When they confronted Daraev near power lines in the woods on the property, an argument ensued and Daraev was shot multiple times at close range. A second man, Djankhtov Azlan, was found in a vehicle a short distance from the incident and was questioned by authorities and later released. The Moore County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.

“Our law enforcement partners at the Moore County Sheriff's Office contacted the FBI following the fatal shooting in Carthage. Special agents met with investigators and provided a linguist to assist with any language barriers during the interview,” the FBI told Fox News.

This appears to be a foreigner targeting a US military installation: Dan Hoffman

Sheriff Ronnie Fields said in a statement: “A caller reported an individual was observed taking photographs on the property and becoming aggressive towards residents outside the home. The body was discovered along power lines on the residential property, approximately 250 yards from the road. Daraev was not initially identified, but was later identified by family members and international identification found in the vehicle.”

The shooter was identified as a U.S. Army colonel who lived at the scene of the shooting.

In recent years, U.S. Special Forces soldiers across the country have reported experiencing strange interactions, including suspicious surveillance of them and their families, and many believe U.S. military bases are increasingly becoming targets for foreign investigations.

The shooting two weeks ago in Carthage may have been a case of mistaken identity. The two Chechens had no identification, two mobile phones with Russian contact details and camera equipment. They were not wearing the uniforms of the power company for which they were supposedly employed.

Sheriff Ronnie Fields said Daraev was working as a subcontractor for New Jersey-based Utilities One at the time of his death. Investigators are continuing to verify Daraev's official employment and immigration status.

At the time of the incident, Daraev was not carrying any utility equipment, utility clothing, or identification. The incident has been reported to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

“Employment at a power company is often a cover for positions and activities used by U.S. intelligence officers to surveil foreign nationals overseas,” a source told Fox News.

In another incident 18 months ago, a mysterious shooting targeted two power distribution substations in Moore County. The damage from that attack left up to 40,000 residential and business customers in North Carolina without power for nearly two weeks. The outages primarily affected areas densely populated by families of U.S. military special forces. Less than two weeks before the Moore County substation incident, the FBI sent a report to private industry warning of an increase in reports of threats to power infrastructure from individuals espousing “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist ideologies.” The FBI took over that investigation, but it remains open.

Daraev's family has launched a petition on Change.org called “Justice for Ramzan Daraev” which has already garnered over 11,000 signatures, adding that “Ramzan left Russia not knowing that the greatest injustice would be perpetrated against him in a free country where, in theory, he should have been protected.”

While the May 3 shooting in Carthage may have been a case of mistaken identity, members of special operations forces are wondering why the FBI isn't leading the investigation into why two Russian-speaking Chechens were taking photos near the barracks of elite Army special forces at 8:15 p.m. on a Friday night, about 10 minutes after the sun had set.

The FBI told Fox News that it has not opened a counterintelligence investigation and that “the local investigation has not uncovered evidence of federal crimes,” adding that “the FBI is in regular contact with investigators at the sheriff's office and stands ready to investigate any federal matters that come to light.”

Kelly Rowland says she 'stood her ground' during red carpet brawl – Music News

Kelly Rowland has explained how she “stood her ground” after getting caught up in a heated argument at the premiere of the French-Italian film “Marcello Mio.”

The former Destiny's Child singer was spotted getting into an altercation with a female security guard at the Cannes Film Festival.

The guard had his hand on Kelly's back and appeared to be giving him instructions, but Kelly raised his finger in the woman's face and appeared to have a negative reaction to what he was told.

“Women know what happened. I know what happened,” Kelly told The Associated Press at the amfAR gala in Cannes. “I have boundaries and I will continue to uphold those boundaries. That's it.”

The 43-year-old suggested the incident was motivated by racism.

“There were other women on the carpet who looked nothing like me, and they weren't scolded or pushed or told to get off,” she said. “I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand her ground.”

Lip reader Jeremy Freeman told Page Six what he thinks the two women were saying to each other.

When someone stepped on her dress, Kelly reportedly said, “Don't worry,” before being chased away by security. It's not clear what the security guard replied, but Kelly is believed to have said, “Don't talk to me like that. Don't talk to me like that. You're not my mother. I told you not to talk to me like that.”
