Former Union University basketball player Rakim Rubin dies at age 28
Former University Huskies basketball player Rakim Rubin has died at the age of 28, according to an online obituary.
Rubin's cause of death was not disclosed, but his obituary said he died Sunday in Gadsden, Alabama.
“Please continue to pray for the comfort of this family and those who may be going through the same experience,” the obituary from Prestige Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory reads.

Rubin, who attended Buford High School in Georgia, committed to UW during his freshman season in 2014-2015. He appeared in 24 games, averaging 6.5 minutes per game and totaling 23 points, 28 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
According to the Hartford Courant, Rubin was nicknamed “The Rock” on the court because of his toughness.

The 6-foot-8, 260-pound forward transferred to Cal State Northridge after one season, but was forced to sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer policies at the time.
Rubin saw increased playing time during the 2016-17 season at Cal State Northridge, averaging 18.2 minutes in 23 games (12 starts).
Rubin averaged 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, shooting 53.2 percent from the field.

He completed his college career at LSU Shreveport, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and management, according to his LinkedIn page.
