Usher to receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 2024 BET Awards – Music News


Usher is set to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 BET Awards.

Officials from the station announced on Wednesday that the award, which “celebrates industry pioneers who have brought about powerful change in the culture and entertainment industry,” will be presented to the “Yeah!” hitmaker at a ceremony on June 30.

“BET's relationship with Usher spans decades, from his multiple appearances on 106 & Park to his most recent acceptance of Entertainer of the Year at the 55th NAACP Image Awards,” BET's Connie Orlando praised in a statement. “From his chart-topping hits, inspiring performances and unforgettable voice to his signature moves and sound, Usher continues to stand in culture and set new standards for the music industry and Black excellence. We look forward to putting together an incredible lineup that will pay tribute to this global icon.”

Surprise guests will appear on stage throughout the show, creating a spectacular celebration of Usher's career.

The 45-year-old, whose real name is Usher Raymond IV, has yet to comment on the news.

Previous recipients of the BET Lifetime Achievement Award include Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Lionel Richie and Busta Rhymes.

The 2024 BET Awards will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Drake is the top nominee with seven nominations across all categories.
