Tom Morello records new album with 13-year-old 'genius' son – Music News

Tom Morello recorded a song with his 13-year-old son because he's a “guitar genius.”

The Rage Against The Machine rock musician has teamed up with Roman to record “Soldier In The Army Of Love” for his new solo album, and revealed he's become a guitar whiz after learning to play during the coronavirus lockdown.

Tom told NME: “[The song is] It's a collaboration with my 13-year-old son, Roman, who has been practicing guitar eight hours a day during the pandemic while we've been baking and learning languages.

“I've always been content to be the rhythm guitarist in my family, but now we have a genius fast guitar player who's just as good as me.”

He added about why he decided to write a song with Roman: “I was walking past his room one day and I heard this amazing drop D riff and I said, 'What's that?' And he said, 'Yeah, I was just working on a riff. Do you think those two go together?'”

“I thought, 'Son, these things fit together so well and we're about to write our first song together.'

He said of the song, “It's got a big Morello riff that will resonate with generations and a blazing guitar solo that will have you guessing who played it.”

Tom went on to say he was “so proud” of Roman's musical talent and that he had spent hours practicing to improve his skills, calling his efforts “inspirational.”

“Soldier In The Army Of Love” is due for release on June 28th and will appear on Tom's upcoming solo album, which he has yet to reveal details about, but which will be his first full-length solo album, following previous side projects such as The Nightwatchman.
