Slash has confirmed that Guns N' Roses are working on a new album.
The 58-year-old guitarist has been busy making Aussie of the Damned, a record of mostly blues songs that features a series of guest vocalists, and has “dragged” bandmate Axl Rose to appear. I didn't want to. That's because their group is busy working on the long-awaited sequel to 2008's Chinese Democracy, which he didn't appear in.
As for why Axl and The Conspirators collaborator Myles Kennedy won't be appearing on the new album, Slash told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper's Wired column:
“Guns N' Roses are trying to make their own record, and I'm working with them in that capacity, and no one else was involved in this.”
In December, the group released “Perhaps,” backed by “The General,” but much like “Absurd” and “Hard Skool,” both of which were released in 2021, it's a near-identical to “Chinese Democracy.” Recorded at the time.
The infamous album was delayed for years and held up by legal issues, but saw Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum leave the group, and frontman Axl and keyboardist Dizzy Only the lead remained.
Slash has previously teased more new music from the hard rock band.
However, he later admitted that he and his bandmates had not written any new songs since reuniting.
He said in October 2021: I haven't even gotten to the point where I really sit down and write seriously.
“We've been producing a lot of work that has been sitting idle for a while. So it's going to be an intensive effort in itself.”
The band reunited with original members Slash and Duff for the 2016 “Not in This Lifetime… Tour”.
