Olly Alexander officially drops 'Years and Years' stage name – Music News

Olly Alexander has officially abandoned the name 'Years & Years' for his musical endeavors.

The 33-year-old singer, who rose to fame as the frontman for the “King” hitmakers alongside Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen, confirmed that he will continue to use the name as a solo artist on his 2022 release “Night Call.”

Taking to the stage for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend on Sunday (26 May 2024), he told the crowd at Luton's Stockwood Park: “Listen, listen, I can't tell you how happy I am to be back in the UK and playing shows.

“Do you know this is my first show as Olly Alexander? I used to be on Years and Years. I used to be Years and Years and now it's just me.”

The show was Ollie's first since finishing 18th in the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this month with the infamous “zero points” in the public vote.

Still, he took the opportunity to poke fun at his disappointing performance at the festival by performing his entrance song, “Dizzy.”

He joked: “And now the song that came 17th away from winning the Eurovision Song Contest is 'Dizzy'.”

Despite his disappointing performance at Eurovision, the actor and singer jokingly described his low score as “symbolic” while thanking his fans for their support.

He wrote on Instagram: “Honestly, I don't know where to begin to talk about this experience. It's going to be a long time sorting through things!”

“Right now I just want to say I am so proud of the performance and the team, they all did such an amazing job and gave their all to make our vision a reality!!

“I'm so grateful to have met so many amazing, talented people on and off stage and to have supported each other throughout…

“We may have received NIL points from voters but I would argue this is iconic! I've also seen a lot of love. We really appreciate it, thank you.”
