Olly Alexander hopes Eurovision will give him a great “platform” for his solo career.
The former Years & Years singer represented Great Britain in the competition on Saturday (May 24, 11) with 'Dizzy', which received zero points from the public and just 46 points from the judges – 18 out of 25. Although he was not able to achieve a good result of 1st place, his motivation was as follows. Participating was to introduce myself to a wider audience.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: “I took part in Eurovision because it was a great opportunity to promote my music.
“That was part of my decision.
“I'm releasing a new song for the first time in several years.
“I hope Eurovision will be a great platform for Dizzy. This is the first song from my new album and there’s a lot of new music to come.”
The 'It's a Sin' actor believes that Eurovision makes a huge contribution to the promotion of artists around the world.
He added: “People love the songs they see at Eurovision, they’re really good at it.
“They're being embraced by a younger audience.”
Danny L. Harle, co-writer of Olly's 'Dizzy', recently revealed that he is working on other songs with Olly.
In an interview with GRAMMYs.com, Danny said, “I've written a few songs with him similar to this, and I really enjoy working with Olly because his voice is so agile and more “Because you can really understand complex code sequences.”
“Another thing I enjoy with him is that there's a sparseness, and the vocal melodies spell out harmonies, going beyond one bass note into a minor or major key in some cases. It’s something I really enjoy.”
Teaming up with the “Desire” hitmaker is something Danny, who also worked on Dua Lipa's latest album Radical Optimism and is known for working with the likes of Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek, has always wanted to do. That's what happened. I was delighted to discover that there was an immediate “chemistry” in the studio.
Danny continued: “I've always been a huge fan of Olly Alexander and have wanted to work with him throughout my career. I think I tweeted hello to him in 2009. But if you like my work… I think you can hear that.” He has the kind of voice that I really like, a very technical and melodious voice. [We] Musically, there was an immediate fit. We've written a fair amount of music and he's a really exciting artist to be involved with. ”
