NASCAR driver Erik Jones suffered a severe back injury in a fiery crash at Talladega during Sunday's Geico 500 race.
Legacy Motor Club announced Tuesday that he will miss the upcoming race at Dover Motor Speedway due to a fractured lower vertebra. Corey Heim will drive Jones' No. 43 Toyota.

“Eric's long-term health is our top priority,” Legacy Motor Club co-owner Jimmie Johnson said in a statement. “It will be great to see him at the track on Sunday and we will give him the time he needs to recover properly.

Jones was initially involved in a shipwreck involving John Hunter Nemechek and Bubba Wallace. Jones crashed into a wall.
Immediately after the accident, he reportedly complained on the radio about his lower back problems.
Jones spoke briefly to reporters after being released from the on-site care center. “It's a little sore, but I'm fine,” he said. NASCAR later announced that he was hospitalized for further testing and released.

He returned to his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he discovered he had lower back pain.

After the Talladega race, Jones is 20th in the Cup Series standings.
