Mustard sat down with us to talk about the making of “Faith of a Mustard Seed,” the album's creative direction, choosing his collaborators, and more. “Faith of a Mustard Seed” will be released on July 26th.

mustard:

And he said, “Well, if you're not going to name the album that, make an album called 'Faith of a Mustard Seed.'”

Tetris Kelly:

You've finally returned after a five-year break, but why now?

mustard:

I think it's just solving the problem of what I want to do and what I want people to hear. Life is just living.

Tetris Kelly:

Life is lived.

mustard:

I'm just taking my time.

Tetris Kelly:

So that's why you decided on the name of the album “Faith of a Mustard Seed.” Do you feel like Nipsey's energy and what you learned from those conversations is reflected in the music and the production of this project?

mustard:

Yeah, it's kind of weird how it happened because I had a totally different title for this album. So I started writing music towards it. I was on the phone with my mom one day and I was like, “When are you going to write me a song? … Something older, something for me that I'd like.” My mom is a big Luther Vandross fan, and I sampled a Luther Vandross song, and I grew up listening to a lot of Luther Vandross songs at home. I'm talking about being a huge Luther Vandross fan. After I wrote that song, Masego played on it, and Ty and Charlie Wilson joined in too.

Stay tuned!
