Miley Cyrus has become afraid to perform since lockdown.
The Wrecking Ball singer, 31, admitted he's more scared of performing in front of audiences now than he was in his 20s, and pointed to the 2020 lockdown as the reason for his fear.
“I perform out of fear. I haven't always been as terrified about performing as I am now, but going from two years on my own in lockdown and only seeing one person a day to knowing that millions of people are watching the Grammys is a huge shock to your nervous system,” she told W Magazine.
The former Hannah Montana star wowed the crowd at the Grammy Awards in February with an energetic performance of her smash hit “Flowers” while wearing a sparkly silver Bob Mackie dress.
She told the magazine that she tried to channel the confidence and courage she had as a child during her performance.
“I wrote on my dream board that I wanted to attend the Grammys with the confidence of a child, not afraid to jump in the deep end or do backflips because I don't know what's on the other side,” she said. “12-year-old me would be outside playing, and 31-year-old me would be wearing Bob Mackie clothes and have a full head of hair.”
The former child star also revealed that she shouts out a mantra to inspire herself before going onstage.
“Before I went on stage, as the curtain went up, I shouted at the top of my lungs, 'I am free!' When I was 20 or 21, it might have sounded more like, 'I don't care what people think. I'm just being myself,'” she recalled.
