Lorde and Charli XCX addressed the issue with a remix of the song “Girl, So Confusing.”
The British pop star released a remix of the song, which appears on his sixth studio album, “Brat,” featuring the New Zealand singer.
Rumors spread soon after the album was released earlier this month that the song was about Lorde.
In the song, Charlie reflects on his complicated relationship with another female singer, with lyrics like, “They say we look alike/They say we have the same hair/We talk about making music/But I don't know if it's honest.”
In the remix, Lorde seems to confirm that the song is about her, singing, “Honestly, I was speechless/When your voice woke me up/You told me how I felt/Let the remix express it.”
“You would always say, 'Let's go out,' and I'd cancel at the last minute. I was lost in my own head and scared to be in the photo.”
Elsewhere in the lyrics, the Royals singer explains that he was “trapped in hatred” and that Charlie's life “seemed so wonderful” but he didn't know that his voice was inside Charlie's head.
They then team up on the pre-chorus, singing, “And if I put this to bed/The internet would go wild.”
On the day “Brat” was released, Lorde gushed about the Von Dutch hitmaker on her Instagram Story.
“The only album I've ever saved drops today,” the Green Light singer wrote. “Charlie did it differently this time…with so much guts, grace and authenticity. I think I speak for all of us when I say it's been an honor to be moved, transformed and enthralled by her work. There's no one like this bitch.”
The remix, titled “The Girl, So Confusing Version with Lorde,” is available to listen to on streaming services now.
