Lizzo clarified her cryptic “quit” comment on Tuesday, telling fans she has no plans to step away from music or social media.
“When I say 'quit,' I mean I stopped paying attention to negative energy,” the singer said in a video posted to Instagram. Last week, she took to social media to say that she was “tired of putting up with being dragged down by life and everyone on the internet,” adding that she had “quit,” leaving her fans speculating.
Tuesday, she continued. “What I'm not going to quit is the joy in my life of making music and connecting with people. I know I'm not alone.” Louder than any positive voice in any way I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing negative voices. ”
She concluded her statement with a message for those who are feeling negative emotions in their lives. “If I can say I inspired and motivated one person to stand up for themselves and stop letting the naysayers and negative comments win, then I have done more than expected. It will happen,” she said. “I’m going to continue to be me and keep moving forward.”
In a post last week, Lizzo said she constantly faced “lies about me for influence and ratings,” was the butt of jokes “at every turn because of the way I looked,” and had strangers make fun of her personality. He said he was there.
“All I want is to make music, make people happy, and help the world be a little better than when I found it,” she wrote. “But I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it.”
The “I'm not quitting, I'm not quitting” exchange comes after lawyers for former dancers criticized Lizzo's performance at a fundraiser for President Joe Biden last week.
“It's shameful that Lizzo would be chosen to headline an event like this in the face of these damning allegations,” attorney Ron Zambrano told NewsNation. “Without getting involved in politics, I can't imagine why anyone would want Lizzo to represent them in any way, given her reprehensible behavior. It's just a terrible look.”
A group of dancers first filed a lawsuit against the singer last August, citing sexual harassment and other workplace complaints. Lizzo has denied all allegations of her cheating. Billboard reported in March that her case is on hold while she appeals a ruling that allowed her case to proceed.
