Liverpool singer-songwriter Banners says dating her “role model” Chris Martin was very inspiring when she was younger.
He went viral on TikTok in 2020 with his 2017 earworm “Someone to You,” and his songs have appeared in the Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell movie “Beautiful Boy,” and on shows like “Grey's Anatomy” and “Suits.” featured pop singers, praising the Coldplay frontman's incredible “work ethic” and “undeniable power,” to name a few.
The “Shine a Light” singer admits that he was blessed with the good fortune of meeting the “Yellow” hitmaker during his career, as his father was the producer of the Grammy Award-winning group's first few records.
Nevertheless, he would be “too scary” to work with his heroes.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Banners, whose real name is Michael Joseph Nelson, said of his favourite artists: “I love Chris Martin. I also love Guy Garvey from Elbow.”
“Of course you know I would love the chance to spend time with either of them. In fact, I'd be too intimidated. Sometimes it's best to just admire people's music from afar.”
“They're incredibly charismatic people. I've dated Chris Martin before, and he's got an incredible amount of power. Since they were much younger, I've always wanted to put it that way. I think we were considered pretty lame back then. Or whatever you want to call it. Even back then, he had a presence and an undeniable power, if only a little. I hope I can get that.”
Speaking about how lucky he was to have a father in the music world, he said: “He was an engineer and record producer, and he worked with them.” [Coldplay] So early on in their careers. Really, when I was little, and that's what I mean by privilege, you know, getting to be involved in something like this and having role models. Role models are so important. I got to see people who obviously have natural talent but also work incredibly hard. I think that's one of the biggest lessons I got from them and from him. [Chris Martin] Especially, it's just a constant work ethic. So I think that's really the most important lesson: to work as hard as you can. And then when you go to bed, or when it's all over, no matter what happens, you know that you did everything you could. If you don't, you're just going to have regrets, you know? You can't regret anything.”
