Lauryn Hill's “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” has been named the greatest album of all time.
The 1998 album took the top spot on Apple Music's 10 Best Albums.
Hill's debut album surpassed other classic records by Beyoncé, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Nirvana.
“This is my award, but this is a rich and deep story, involving so many people, so much sacrifice, so much time and so much collective love,” Hill said in the obituary. He spoke after receiving it.
Hill's album topped Michael Jackson's “Thriller'' (1982) at number 2 and the Beatles' “Abbey Road'' (1969) at number 3.
Only five artists have two albums on the top 100 list: The Beatles, Wonder, Prince, Radiohead and Beyonce.
The process began several months ago, with the music streaming giant's team of editors and music experts compiling a shortlist spanning the past 65 years.
Members of Apple Music's internal team submitted their personal lists via the company's voting microsite.
The same voting method was used for a select group of external voters, including artists, songwriters, producers, and media.
“This list is not a popularity contest,” explained Ebro Darden, Apple Music's global editor for hip hop and R&B.
“We have urged people not to vote based on their favourites.
“You were invited onto the panel because you know more about music than what you hear on an elliptical machine.”
