John Legend has showered his wife Chrissy Teigen with love and support after she opened up to US Vice President Kamala Harris about her abortion experience.
The music superstar posted the heartfelt message on Instagram, accompanied by a video of his model and TV host wife speaking about reproductive rights at the White House.
“I am so proud of my wife for being a courageous leader on this issue and a great listener,” the Grammy Award winner wrote. “She has led a powerful conversation on reproductive rights at the White House.”
Teigen tearfully recounted her experience getting an abortion at the Feminist Women's Health Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
“This doesn't have to be a dark place and the comfort I felt just being in your clinic was incredible and it was so beautiful and it was exactly what I was hoping for actually. I found it to be such a beautiful place and it was so, so special,” she said.
The conversation comes exactly two years after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, meaning the right to an abortion is no longer protected by the Constitution.
In 2020, Teigen publicly announced that she had lost her son, Jack, after miscarriage at 20 weeks during a pregnancy plagued with complications.
Two years later, she revealed that the abortion actually saved her life.
“To be honest, it was an abortion. It was an abortion to save my life for a baby that would never be born.”
