Jess Glynne claims her music career was saved by her song 'Promise Me'.
The 34-year-old 'Rather Be' chart-topper revealed she considered quitting the music industry in the face of online criticism, but found the strength to continue after writing the song, which she “Jess'' from the newly released record.
According to the Daily Star, she said: “I think one of my fondest memories was when I was in L.A. going through a really tough time and really struggling and feeling really vulnerable.
“I was in the hotel room and we were in the studio together.” [producer] Greg Kurstin and this song didn't go well together.
“One of my favorite memories is walking out that day singing a song that I couldn’t be more proud of.
“This is essentially a message to myself to remind myself that I am enough.”
Jess has previously opened up about her struggles dealing with online trolls, admitting she almost gave up due to the “scrutiny” she received as a high-profile figure.
In an interview with The Independent, she said: [I’ve gone through with] By the time I got to this point, myself and the people around me, I thought, “Well, I can't just give up everything.'' ”
“JESS” is the “Hold My Hand” singer's first album in six years, and after feeling “misunderstood,” she hopes through this work that the world can “understand her humanity.” The artist said he hopes it will.
She explained: “I feel misunderstood and I don’t think that’s something I want to continue with my career.
“I want people to listen to my records and understand where they came from and who I am as a person.”
