And now to something completely different: you may know her from her band, Helen Scott, or perhaps her solo performances, or perhaps her musical teaching. But local musician Emily Ireland just finished performing in an off-Broadway show called “Mickey's Uncut Hits: A Rouncy Cabaret.'' Hey everyone, you've seen the title of the song, yes. The performance took place at the Triad Theater in New York. According to a press release, the show features “parody versions of classic Disney hits, with favorite childhood melodies reimagined as an entire soundtrack of raunchy xxx songs.” You can watch it on demand until the 25th of this month. To watch the stream on-demand, select a ticket tagged “on-demand” from the ticket options. For more information and ticket links, visit emilighireland.com/new-events.
Move your feet: The boys from Heart of Pine recently released a new single that will be featured on the band's next full-length album, scheduled for release in July. The song is titled “Fetamine & Pearl” and is true to Heart of Pine's ability to expertly explore almost every genre of Southern music. This time it's the style of the Memphis Horns. The vocals are very reminiscent of a young Chris Robinson (Black Crowes), with a lot of “har-ha-ha” vocalizations happening. Find this on all major streaming services and check out the band's back catalog at heartofpine.bandcamp.com. For all other information, please visit heartofpineband.com.

Shake the Money: The 2024 Athens Business Rocks event, presented by Nuçi's Space, will be held at 40 Watts on Saturday, May 4th. Bands made up of employees from local businesses will perform live after already winning several qualifying rounds in the Battle of the Bands. It's all a win for Nuçi's Space. In the actual contest, the night's score, separate from the judges' scores, is tallied by the number of “votes” an act receives. We don't know exactly what the exchange rate is, but “votes” are calculated according to the amount of money the band collects from the audience. That is, the person with the most money wins. Don't even get me started. Advance tickets for the show are $20 at 40watt.com. For additional information, please visit nuci.org.
And in less than 20 minutes!: The new EP of experimental noise/ambient project partydead has been released and is called “born into''. His first two songs, “No one told me the future would last this long” and “Usually I don't say anything,” are great examples of PartyDead's ambient work, with the former quite literally The latter is somewhat similar. But more manipulative and howling. The final track “Friend Hits” is the most aggressive and ambitious of the three songs. Go through several movements and adjust certain aspects at once. Note from Nelly B: Old school Athens MC G. Da Ward Don (aka G. Mackensington Ward) recorded a song by Iron Triangle, an Athens hip-hop duo that was pretty active in the early 2000s. We have released a new album. The duo consisted of Ward and DJ Mr. Big (also known as the late Julian “Jay” Sims, who passed away in 2017). They released his album Slumjevity in 2004, so these new songs can be considered from around the same time. The new album is called ForEver and contains 17 tracks. This release is a true archival piece, with guest appearances by Daddy Ken (Low Down & Daddy), Fuchs, Dynamic Buzz, It's Li Baby, Tony P., and Ramea. Stylistically, it's very current and enthusiastically creative along the same lines as Atlanta's Organized Noise production team. Find this on Spotify or gthawardon.bandcamp.com.

Yes, I'm talking to you. I don't know who the next mourner will be. Online, they're listed simply as Ricki, Jathan, Bailey, Paris, and Micah, but they're basically useless. That said, I have nothing but praise for the title they chose for their newly released five-song EP (Demo Sandwich). The first two songs, “Don't Leave Me, Edith” and “Mr. No Show” have some pretty heavy Cap'N Jazz and possibly Hot Water Music influences, but this one stops there. “Yeah, dude!” This is a great slice of old school hardcore that actually has a melody. “Big 'Ol Fat Cat” veers fully into indie-folk territory, but with identical dual lead vocals. They wrap it all up with “String Killer.” The song begins with a very slight Stones-esque riff, but quickly moves into deep, moody second-wave emoland, ending with the same riff as the opening. This was all pretty rough and not unexpected, but it's also pretty cool if you check it out. Find it at thenextmourning.bandcamp.com.
