The title of top prize at the 2024 Latin American Music Awards went to two artists: Fayed and Karol G.
The Colombian hitmakers each won six awards. Karol won the Artist of the Year award over artists such as Bad Bunny, Karin Leung, and Peso Pluma. She also won her Album of the Year (Mañana Sera Bonito) and Song of the Year (“TQG”) with Shakira. Bichota was not in attendance as he is currently on MSB's Latin American tour, but Feed was in attendance and performed alongside Farruco and Jay Wheeler in a special tribute to Yandel.
It was a special night for Yandel, who received one of three special awards that night. The Puerto Rican hitmaker was awarded the Latin AMA Pioneer Award. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude to “TK.” Her two other special awards were won by Ricardo Montaner and Vanda MS, each receiving the Latin AMA Legacy Award.
The first award of the night went to Peso Pluma, who won Best Album of the Mexico Region for their history-making set “Genesis.” “I just want to thank you for all the love you've shown Corridos and for the love you've shown me,” the Mexican star said in his speech. “Thank you to everyone who made this possible, especially my fans, because you all made this Corridos wave even bigger.”
Only a few awards were given out throughout the three-hour show, instead stacking back-to-back performances. Actual winners include Fayed, who was named Streaming Artist of the Year, and Peso, who returns with Eslabon Armado for Best Collaboration in the Mexican Region (“Ella Baila Sola”) ) etc. Karin León also took to the stage to premiere her own song, “Cuando La Vida Sea Trago,” as well as receiving the Mexico Regional Artist of the Year award.
Other performances on the night included several premieres, including Marc Anthony singing “Ale Ale” from his new album Muvens. And Karin Leon performed her “Cuando la vida si trago” for the first time. Country singer Jennifer Nettles joins singer-songwriter Noel Shajiris for the world premiere of “Love's Still Here” from her new bilingual album.
In addition to Becky G, Thalía, Alejandra Espinosa and Carlos Ponce also hosted the ceremony, which was conducted in a combination of English and Spanish, marking the first time a major awards ceremony in the United States was broadcast in two languages. , the host and presenter spoke half Spanish. , half English at the same time.
