Frank Turner says he's “very proud but also exhausted” after breaking the world record for most shows played in multiple cities within 24 hours.
The 'Recovery' singer will perform 15 20-minute sets across the UK from Saturday to Sunday (May 24th to May 5th) as part of the Music Venue Trust's campaign. He defeated record holder Hunter Hayes, which wore him down for the effort.
He said in a statement: “I am very proud to have completed my world record attempt, but more than that I am exhausted.
“The main motivation for me was to bring together over 3,000 people in 24 hours to have a good time, focusing on the work of independent venues, record shops and the Music Venue Trust.
“We did 24 shows in 24 hours in London in 2009, but this was probably a bigger challenge and more official. Time for some sleep!”
The 'The Way I Tend to Be' hitmaker posted a 'before' photo on Instagram on Saturday (04.05.24), just before setting off on a record-breaking show tour.
The 42-year-old musician wrote: 15 shows, 15 cities, 24 hours. This is a terrible idea.
“Thank you to the venue, staff, record store and @musicvenuetrust. Let's do this.”
Frank then uploaded an “after” photo from the stage of his last concert in Southampton.
He captioned the post: “In 2009, for the music video for 'The Road', I played 24 shows in 24 hours, all in Greater London. House parties, venues, record shops, etc. It was fun though. It was very informal and I didn't want to do it again.
“In the last 24 hours, my crew (Doug, Tre and Mark) and I have played 15 shows in 15 different towns across the UK.
“According to @musicvenuetrust rules, this is a world record with 5 shows. All shows were at independent venues and tickets were issued by independent record stores. Yay.
“I'm proud. I'm tired. I'm grateful. Long live independent music.”
