Former CNN reporter Michelle Kosinski wrote in a social media post Sunday that she was surprised at how “normal” a group of “closeted” Trump supporters seemed at a dinner she attended. She said it still “haunts” her.
“All were highly educated and successful in their careers. They seemed great! On the surface. It was only for an hour or so. But slowly, over a few drinks, they realized they were real MAGA began to reveal its nature,” Kosinski wrote.
Kosinski, a former CNN and NBC News correspondent, wrote that one couple in the group won't allow their children to attend an Ivy League college, but it's “strange” to explain why. . Some people use air quotes when talking about climate change.

“When others realized that the few people in front of them (gasp) came with actual facts (no!), they quickly changed the subject and stopped talking about politics. They nervously said they didn't want to. They knew they were going to be eviscerated on all kinds of nonsense, especially the economy,” Kosinski said.
Kosinski said it's strange how “extremist” and “wrong” beliefs leak out from people you least expect, but warned: “They're out there.”
“This dinner continues to haunt me. They all seemed so…normal. When I asked a couple who are old friends of mine how they didn't know, they said, “In this upscale residential area, people are very careful to make sure they don't put themselves in any danger,” Kosinski said. “It's not healthy to bring up or discuss this topic.” Continued in red.

“If people never discuss these things as friends and neighbors and only live in their own distorted information silos, how can we know what is true or false? Will we start thinking about alternatives? The bulls are taking in sane minds,” Kosinski wrote.

Some critics derided the anecdote, including Mark Hemingway of Real Clear Investigations, who noted that mortgage rates have tripled in the past three years.
