Fontaines DC releases final track from new album 'Romance' – Music News

Fontaines DC have revealed that “Favourite” will open and close their upcoming album, Romance.

The post-punk band – comprised of Grian Chatten, Tom Coll, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III and Carlos O'Connell – are set to release the LP on August 23rd and have now unveiled the song's music video, which includes footage of the band members when they were younger.

“This video is a throwback, a reminder of childhoods we never knew about,” Deegan said in a statement.

“When we look at some of our childhood close friends as adults, we explore where we came from and, in some ways, who we still are. There are a lot of familiar faces, but the antics these young people get up to in their videos are heartwarming and disarming to watch.

“I sometimes think back to the boyish attitude they grew out of when I knew them, and sometimes I think back to the boyish attitude they still hadn't grown out of. I feel their spirit there.”

He added, “I hope this video will be a way to celebrate our friendships and nurture the relationships we cherish – our mothers, fathers, brothers, aunts and uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers; those who are still with us and those we have sadly lost.”

“We haven't lost our connection with each other and we're not afraid to become adults again while still maintaining our romance in a sometimes tough world.”

Chatten explains that the album, which was released last month alongside their first single “Starbuster,” was inspired by Katsuhiro Otomo's anime “Akira,” describing it as having “this never-ending sound, this continuous cycle from euphoria to sadness, these two worlds that just keep spinning forever.”

He said, “I'm fascinated by the idea of falling in love at the end of the world.”

“This album is about protecting that little flame. The bigger the catastrophe, the more precious that flame becomes.”

“On this album I'm saying things I've wanted to say for a long time. I don't feel like I'm done, but it's nice to feel lighter.”
