Introducing LIVE MUSIC BAR — Aotearoa's new musical web series presented by UTR, produced by Sports Team and supported by NZ On Air.
Join host Navakatoa Tekela-Pule and the studio audience for dynamite performances and intriguing conversations with special guests drawn from Aotearoa's top talent. All filmed at the namesake venue in the beating heart of Tāmaki Makaurau, LIVE MUSIC BAR is an authentic and innovative nightclub experience that bridges the gap between online and real life. Filmed by James Milne (Chabs & Milky) and the sports team using vintage camera gear, LIVE MUSIC BAR is invited to join us, timed to mark UTR's 20th anniversary.
The first episode will feature Earth Tongue performing “Reaper Returns” and “Nightmare” from their new album Great Haunting, plus a candid Q&A session with the audience, before concluding with the classic “Pentagram On The Moon” from their 2019 debut album Floating Being.
Earth Tongue are a heavy psych-fuzz duo from Aotearoa consisting of Gussie Larkin (Mermaidens) and Ezra Simmons (Soft Bait, Troy Kingi). Having guest supported Queens Of The Stone Age at Spark Arena in February, the amp-blasting duo are currently based in Berlin and touring Europe and the UK with Ty Segall. Written during a pandemic lockdown-era horror movie binge, they've just released their doom-soaked sophomore album, Great Haunting, on Los Angeles-based label In The Red Records (Thee Oh Sees, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Dion Lunadon).
“Following on from our massive lockdown hit 'Goin' Live with Chabs and Milky', we're thrilled to be working with James Milne and his VHS camera collection. That show had a genuine love for the golden age of music TV and a feel-good, homemade feel that's hard to find on the internet. We've retained the spirit of that show and its sole focus of showcasing the best musicians in the country. It's a nice change of pace from our last show, 'Trash Recital', where musicians weren't even allowed to play their own instruments.” – The Sports Team
