Rumors have been swirling about Down's first new music for several years since their 2014 EP Down IV – Part 2, and it looks like it's actually happening! According to guitarist Kirk Windstein, the band spent some time in the studio writing a little bit last week and ended up with two (sort of) songs. He said in a Facebook post: “So…I wrote two songs for Down today!!!”
For those who don't know, Down is made up of Windstein (Clover, I Am), fellow guitarist Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity), vocalist Phil Anselmo (Pantera), and bassist Patrick Blue. Darth (Saint Vitus, ex-Clover) and drummer Jimmy Bower (Ihategod). . Down released his three highly influential albums from 1995 to his 2007. “NOLA'' in 1995, “Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow…'' in 2002, and “Down III: Over the Under'' in 2007. He then released his two EPs under the name Down IV in 2012 and 2014.
In a recent interview with Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold in early October, Windstein expressed hope that the band might be able to release an EP of six new songs in 2024.
“We talked about doing something like a cover songs EP. But there were like 100 songs and I can't pick one. So for me, it was like, 'Hey, guys, let's do it.' It’s easier to say, “I’m just writing shit in my fucking room.” ” I hope that happens by releasing six songs and making an EP. ”
“To be honest, I don't know,” he added. “And this isn't from Phil or Rex or anything like that. They can go on about the Pantera thing forever. Just like festivals in South America, Europe and elsewhere, they can do it — they You can always go and do a weekend or two here in the summer, in between Zack and Charlie's schedules…whatever they're doing with their respective bands, I'd love to see them do it forever. I hope it continues.”
