Demi Lovato shares 'hopeful' outlook after struggle with mental health – Music News

Demi Lovato has found “hope” after feeling “defeated” by past mental health struggles.

The 31-year-old singer and actress has been somewhat open about her struggles with mental health, substance abuse and eating disorders.

But the former Disney child star admitted that seeking help to confront his demons didn't always work immediately, and that he felt “defeated” after being admitted to an institution for the fifth time.

During an interview this week at NewYork-Presbyterian Church's annual benefit event for the Youth Mental Health Center, People magazine quoted the star as saying, “I've been to inpatient treatment five times, but every time I go back to the treatment center I feel defeated.”

“I know that experience firsthand, and I think the silver lining was when they started talking and building relationships with their treatment team, whether it was a job or a program.”

She added optimistically: “Once I started to notice the joy in life and the little things, I think I started to see rays of hope, which was totally foreign to me before, because I was so used to not seeing hope.”

Demi has previously been to rehab multiple times and relapsed after six years of sobriety, which led to a near-death experience in 2018.

She channeled the trauma of her 2018 drug overdose into her 2021 album, Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over.
