Multi-acclaimed South African Grammy Award-winning global pop star Tyra's self-titled debut album has surpassed the one billion stream milestone on Spotify, an incredible achievement for the amapiano/pop singer who has been on track to achieve her goal of “taking amapiano to the world” since joining Epic Records in 2021.
The announcement comes just two weeks after the release of the album's latest music video, “Jump.” The video is an international production that was shot in South Africa and Jamaica and features guest artists Gunna and Skillibeng. Directed by NABIL, the video has already garnered over 8 million views.
“Water,” the smash hit single that launched Tyra to global stardom, celebrated its first anniversary in July, and the ripple effects have been immeasurable. Following a magical summer of success in 2023, Tyra achieved a host of career highlights, including becoming the highest-charting African female soloist on the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving her first career Grammy Award nomination and win (for “Best African Music Performance”).
Tyra has produced career highlights across cultural mediums, from her memorable performance on Fallon and Dick Clark's “Rockin' New Year's Eve,” to her Vogue pick moment at the Met Gala, to her instantly classic appearance with Kai Senatto, and her rite of passage integration into the legendary video game, “Fortnite.”
This year, with her debut album, Tyra made another Billboard history, this time becoming the highest-ranked African female solo artist on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. Tyra made a major impact on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs, Rhythmic Airplay and Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop Airplay charts, with “Water” hitting #1, as well as the album having 12 exclusive tracks debut on the US Afrobeats Chart. By any standards, Tyra has had, and continues to have, one of the most successful debut album campaigns in recent history.
Tyra's “Water” remains at the top of the World Music On-Demand Audio Streaming Chart year to date, with seven songs from her debut album charting, including “Truth or Dare” at #8 and “Jump” at #14.
