Cyndi Lauper to depart for farewell tour later this year – Music News

Cyndi Lauper has announced that she will be embarking on a farewell tour later this year.

The 70-year-old pop icon has announced plans for his first major tour in a decade, visiting 23 North American cities in October and December, starting in Montreal and wrapping up in Chicago.

The series of shows is named “The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour,” after her legendary 1983 hit single.

Cindy plans to announce opening acts for the tour at a later date.

On Tuesday (04.06.24) she will release a new documentary, “Let The Canary Sing,” directed by Alison Ellwood and airing on US television via Paramount+.

The career retrospective is scheduled to be released on the same day that Cindy is scheduled to attend a handprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

She's also scheduled to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday night (05.06.24).

News of her final tour comes after she signed a deal with Swedish virtual avatar company Pophouse Entertainment Group, the company behind arena show ABBA Voyage.

The company, founded by Abba singer Bjorn Ulvaeus, now owns a majority stake in Cindy's master recording revenues and publishing.

The company will now pursue a “creative revitalization” of her catalog, which includes tracks such as “True Colors” and “Time After Time,” through live shows, television programs and other projects.

Announcing the deal earlier this year, the pop star said: “From the first time we met, I have been impressed with Pophouse’s commitment to preserving, developing and ensuring the legacy of my professional life’s work.

“Their creativity and vision, and my continued involvement through our unique joint venture, are what inspire me most.

“I can't wait to be part of this next phase of my musical evolution, and I couldn't be happier knowing that my music will be in the safe hands of PopHouse for the coming years as they continue to build on my legacy.”

And in a video discussing the deal, she told Bjorn she was inspired by the work of Abba.

She added: “When I saw Abba Voyage I started thinking about what I could do and got excited – not selling, but buying.”
