Chris Martin and band gave fans a sneak peek at what's to come when they performed the new song in its entirety at Budapest's Puskas Arena on Sunday night (June 16). Prior to this, the band took to social media to reveal a snippet of the euphoric new track, along with artwork depicting a fading planet's face with a colorful corona erupting from its surface.

In the song, Martin sings: “I feel like I've fallen in love/You threw me a lifeline/Well, not the first time/I know I'm not alone.”

The statement said Coldplay have “made great efforts to make the physical release of Moon Music as sustainable as possible,” in line with the quartet's longstanding environmental ethics.

The 140-gram LP contains around nine recycled PET bottles recovered from post-consumer waste, while the CD version is said to be a “world first” to be released on EcoCD, made from 90% recycled polycarbonate, also made from post-consumer waste.

The statement said the first printings of Moon Music (EcoRecord rPET LP and EcoCD) will be limited edition, individually numbered, and produced to a “higher specification” than future cuts.

“Moon Music” is Coldplay's latest release and the follow-up to their 2021 Max Martin-produced effort “Music of the Spheres,” which debuted at number one in the UK and Australia and number four on the Billboard 200. Their single with BTS, “My Universe,” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Martin has been hinting at the new record for at least 18 months. In January 2023, he told Toronto City News that his then-promised second album in the Music of the Sphere series was nearing completion. While he said “it won't be out for a while,” he hinted that the band “may” start performing some of the new songs live that year.

Coldplay's current world tour, supporting Spheres, kicks off in Costa Rica on March 18, 2022. The multi-year tour is currently scheduled to conclude with the second of two shows at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand on November 16.
