Coldplay announce details of new album 'Moon Music'

Coldplay have announced the release of their 10th studio album, 'Moon Music.' The album, which follows 2021's 'Music of the Spheres,' will be released on October 4th.

Produced by Max Martin, Moon Music will be released in a variety of formats that meet “new sustainability standards.” The group has long placed a premium on sustainability, and according to a press release, their current tour has reduced their carbon footprint by 59 percent so far compared to their previous stadium tour. Coldplay will continue their sustainability efforts with four physical release versions of the upcoming album: standard EcoCD, standard numbered EcoRecord rPET LP, notebook EcoCD, and notebook numbered EcoRecord rPET LP + EcoCD. Each initial edition release will be numbered, and a limited number of hand-signed editions will also be available.

The 140g EcoRecord rPET LP version is the first of its kind: each copy is made from nine recycled PET plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste. Compared to traditional 140g vinyl, this approach reduces the use of 25 tonnes of virgin plastic and also reduces CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process by 85 percent.

The additional formats are the result of a collaboration between Coldplay and Ocean Cleanup. The Notebook Edition EcoRecord rPET LP is made from 70% river plastic recovered by the organization from Rio Las Vacas in Guatemala. Both the Notebook Edition rPET LP and EcoCD are hardcover books in a case modeled after singer Chris Martin's own studio notebooks, featuring 28 previously unpublished pages of notes, lyrics and illustrations culled from the making of Moon Music. The Notebook Edition version also includes additional audio notes and demos from the album's recording sessions.

Meanwhile, the CD version of Moon Music is another first as an eco-CD, made from 90 percent recycled polycarbonate made from post-consumer waste, reducing CO2 emissions during production by at least 78 percent and avoiding the use of more than five tonnes of virgin plastic.

Earlier this month, Coldplay debuted “All My Love” at their first concert in Athens, Greece. The tracklist for Moon Music has yet to be announced, but the song is likely to appear on the album. Martin told the Athens crowd that the song wasn't supposed to be heard until September, just before the album's October 4 release.

The LP's first single, “feelslikeimfallinginlove,” will be released on Friday, June 21st and is available for pre-order ahead of its release. Moon Music is also available for pre-order.
