Tyra says she's “tired of” being compared to Britney Spears – Music News
Tyra thinks she's “tired of” the comparisons to Britney Spears.
When the 22-year-old singer released the music video for her song “Water” last October, fans were quick to point out the racy footage's similarities to Britney's iconic 2001 promotional video for “I'm A Slave 4 U.”
Tyra wasn't happy about the comparison at the time, and now she's frustrated that people keep mentioning Britney when talking about her.
She told Dazed magazine in an interview: “To be honest, most of the time when people bring up these references, there really wasn't any there at all.”
“We're never like, 'Make the video look exactly like this.' It's getting boring now.”
The “Overdue” hitmaker stressed that she and her team try to innovate with their music videos, adding that she likes to be surrounded by people with “new and fresh ideas.”
She said: “There's so much great, new and creative stuff going on in this day and age. I love working with people who have new and fresh ideas.”
Tyra stressed that the choreography was rarely planned in advance and was simply “random people” expressing themselves “in the moment.”
She explained: “The dance we came up with was literally just some random people doing whatever they were feeling in the moment, and it took off and is now popular all over the world.”
In March, the “Jump” singer released his debut studio album, “Tyla,” which features appearances from Travis Scott, Becky G, Gunna, Thames and Skillibeng.
After releasing her Grammy-winning LP, Tyra was set to hit the road, but was forced to put those plans on hold after suffering an unnamed injury.
The South African artist insisted he is in no rush to go on tour, saying: [her] It will take “sufficient time” for her to fully recover.
“I still listen to my body,” she said.
“I think you need to take your time and not rush things. I want to give people art and a good performance, but I need to listen to my body and what I need.”
