BBC announces Glastonbury 2024 broadcast plans


The BBC has announced its broadcast plans for Glastonbury Festival 2024. See below for details.

The legendary Worthy Farm event runs from June 26-30 and will feature Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA headlining the Pyramid Stage, along with other acts including Shania Twain, LCD Soundsystem, Little Simz, The National, Avril Lavigne, The Last Dinner Party, Jungle, Justice, Bloc Party, Fontaines DC, Yard Act, Arlo Parks and Gossip.

Earlier today (30 May), Glastonbury's exclusive broadcast partner, the BBC, revealed details of “the longest festival celebration ever” across TV, BBC iPlayer, radio and BBC Sounds, with the schedule also revealing the addition of James, Soft Play (formerly known as Slaves) and Thames to the line-up.

Fans who weren't able to get tickets to Glastonbury Festival 24 can enjoy more than 90 hours of live performances from all five main stages, as well as extensive TV coverage, on BBC iPlayer. [and] 90 hours of radio coverage from the festival.

Viewers can watch live streams from The Pyramid, Other, West Holts, Woodsies and The Park stages in ultra-high definition.

This year's main TV coverage will be presented by Clara Amfo, Jack Saunders, Joe Whiley and Lauren Laverne, while other BBC presenters include Huw Stevens, Cerys Matthews, Craig Charles, Danny Howard and Zoe Ball.

New additions to the 2024 schedule include Glastonbury Channel II on iPlayer and a series of 30-minute TV specials on BBC Two including Dua Lipa and Coldplay.

BBC Sounds will have further coverage featuring special episodes of Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw's Sidetracked podcast, which will air weekly from Monday 3rd June. A bonus edition of Glastonbury According To Sidetracked will also be available after the event.

Following the weekend's performances on BBC television channels, BBC Two will summarise the best parts of Glastonbury 2024 in a highlights programme.

The television program schedule from Saturday, June 22nd to Friday, June 28th will be announced on Wednesday, June 12th, and the television program schedule from Saturday, June 29th to Friday, July 5th will be finalized on Wednesday, June 19th.

In addition, 'The One Show' will be broadcast live from Worthy Farm on Music Day (Friday 28th June).

Ahead of the doors opening, iPlayer's Classic Glastonbury Channel will be streaming setlists from past performances including Elton John, Kylie Minogue and Ed Sheeran, which are due to go live on Monday 10 June.

Meanwhile, the Glastonbury Highlights channel is “for those who want to catch up on sets they missed or relive memorable moments from the event”, and will be available to fans from Monday 1 July until Sunday 14 July.

Radio coverage this year will include Lauren Laverne on 6 Music, who will broadcast 54 hours of live programming from Worthy Farm, while Radio 1's Jamie Laing and Vic Hope will tour the venue to find the best Glastonbury stories.

Radio 2's Joe Whiley will be previewing Shania Twain's Legends slot on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday (June 30), with Coldplay's headline set broadcast on the station the night before (June 29).

Lorna Clarke, BBC's director of music, said: “The BBC's coverage of Glastonbury is one of the BBC's greatest pop treasures. We're evolving the show to give viewers different ways to enjoy the festival across our platforms – it's BBC Glastonbury.”

“This year we are debuting the Glastonbury Channel II, a welcome addition to multiple streams on BBC iPlayer, giving viewers a running round-up of key moments from each day.”

Clarke continued: “We're proud to be bringing Pyramid Stage Signed, a British Sign Language performance from Glastonbury's most iconic stage, back for the second year in a row, making the Glastonbury experience even more accessible to all audiences.”
