To no one's surprise, Taylor Swift won Artist of the Year at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards, held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Monday (April 1). (The full list of winners is here.) Swift previously won this award in 2015. In 2016 and 2018, Swift won Female Artist of the Year, but last year iHearts permanently moved to a gender-neutral category.
Swift, who accepted the award via video message, won a total of six awards that night, tying last year's record for most wins by a female artist in one night. Drake is the leader of the whole singles night thing. She received seven awards in 2017.
Swift's other five awards include Pop Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year for The Elus Tour, and three socially voted categories: Favorite Tour Style, Best lyrics for “Is It Over Now?'' And “Cruel Summer” won TikTok Bop of the Year. These six of her awards extend her lead as the artist with the most iHeartRadio Awards. She has 25 now.
This is the fourth time Swift has won the award for best lyrics. She previously won awards for “Anti-Hero,” “All Too Well,” and “Blank Space.” Many consider Swift to be the greatest songwriter of her generation. She has been nominated for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year seven times, more than anyone in history (though, oddly, she has yet to win in that category).
SZA and Peso Pluma each won four awards on the night, sweeping all awards available in their home genres of R&B and regional Mexico, respectively. Jelly Roll, Morgan Wallen, Karol G, and Jungkook each won two awards.
Swift's win was highly anticipated, so let's take a closer look at the other seven artists who set records at the 2024 iHearts.
SZA
SZA won three awards in the R&B category: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for SOS, and Song of the Year for “Snooze.” Her fourth win was for “Kill Bill” in the all-genre song of the year category.
This is the third consecutive year that a female solo artist has won Song of the Year. Dua Lipa won the award in 2022 for “Levitating.” Swift won last year for “Anti-Hero.” Oddly enough, “Kill Bill” beat out Miley Cyrus' “Flowers” in this category, but “Flowers” beat out “Kill Bill” for pop song of the year. (Maybe that's not so strange. Voters may say Kill Bill is a great record that's hard to categorize, but Flowers is an unbeatable pure pop smash. is.)
“Kill Bill” and “Flowers” also competed for record of the year at the Grammy Awards, where Cyrus's big hit won. Only two of iHeart's Song of the Year winners have also won a Grammy for Record of the Year: Adele's “Hello” and Lizzo's “Truth Hurts.”
This is the second year in a row that SZA has won R&B Artist of the Year. She is the second artist to win twice in this category, following HER, who won in 2020 and 2021. This is also the second year in a row that SZA has won R&B Song of the Year. She won last year with “I Hate U.” SZA and Chris Brown are the only artists to win in this category two years in a row.
peso pluma
Peso Pluma won four Mexican regional awards: Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Album of the Year for Genesis, and Best Song for “Ella Baila Sola,” a collaboration with Eslabon Armado. monopolized everything.
drake
The superstar won Hip-Hop Artist of the Year for the sixth time in history. He has previously won in 2016, 2017, 2020, 2022, and 2023. No other artist has won this category more than once.
Foo Fighters
The veteran band has won Rock Artist of the Year for the third time in their history. The band has previously won in 2016 and 2022, but Disturbed are the only band to have won in this category repeatedly. They won in 2017 and 2020.
victoria monet
The writer-turned-artist won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist on February 4th, as well as Best New R&B Artist. And in a sign of how competitive the Grammy race was, four of the artists who lost to Monet at the Grammys won in other categories here. Jelly Roll won Best New Artist in both Pop and Country. Noah Kahan won Best New Artist in the Rock/Alternative category. Ice Spice won Best New Artist in Hip Hop. And Gracie Abrams won the social-voted Social Star Award.
Karol G
The Colombian superstar won two awards in the Latin Pop/Urban category: Mañana Serra Bonito's Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. She is the first woman to win in either category. Mañana Serra's Bonito is the first all-Spanish album by a female artist to top the Billboard 200, and the first in history by a female artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Musical Album. I made it.
BTS fans and solo stars
BTS's Army won Favorite Fan Army for the seventh year in a row. And three members of that supergroup won in other categories, although seven members are currently on hiatus to fulfill their mandatory military obligations in South Korea. Jungkook won two awards: K-Pop Artist of the Year and Best Music Video for “Seven” featuring Rat. V won favorite debut album for Layover. And J-HOPE won the on-screen favorite with J-HOPE/IN THE BOX.
BTS had won best music video for the past four years in a row for “Boy With Luv” (starring Halsey), “Dynamite,” “Butter” and “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment).” This marks Jung Kook's fifth consecutive year receiving this award.
