Sabrina Carpenter has officially returned with new music, and fans are going wild over the surprising meaning behind the lyrics of “Espresso.”
Ever since Sabrina released 'Emails I Can't Send' in 2022, fans have been anxious to see what she'll do next. Since then, she's dominated the charts with her smash hits 'Nonsense' and 'Feather,' supported Taylor Swift on her record-breaking Eras Tour, released a Christmas EP, and regularly makes headlines with her raunchy 'Nonsense' outro.
Now Sabrina has ushered in a new era. “Espresso” is a hot girl anthem that brings her unique sense of humor to the forefront. What is the song about? Sabrina spoke about the writing process of “Espresso.”

In “Espresso,” Sabrina sings about being hot enough to make someone go crazy for you, with many hilarious innuendos. In the chorus, Sabrina sings: “Now he thinks about me every night, oh / Is that sweet? I think it is / Say I can't sleep, baby, I know / That's me, espresso / Move it up, down, left, right, oh / Switch it on like a Nintendo”.
Sabrina confidently adds in the first verse, “Don't give a damn/My 'nothings' are on vacation,” and in the pre-chorus, she sings, “Soft skin, I put perfume on you/I put Mountain Dew on you/That morning coffee I brewed for you/Made new for you with a lick of paint.” The queen of euphemisms is back again!
Discussing the song in an interview with Apple Music, Sabrina revealed that she wrote “Espresso” while in France, saying, “The whole song has so much personality and I was really excited about it because those kinds of songs are so much fun to sing live in front of an audience.”
Sabrina continues, “I feel like those are songs that people who don't know anything about my music or who I am can just listen to one and walk away with a better understanding of my sense of humor.”

Sabrina added, “This was one of those moments in my life where I felt like I was the best I could be in that exact moment. But it doesn't always feel that way, so you have to seize those moments, because then you make those little discoveries…”
She finally said, “For me, it was really fun to apply it to caffeine and how addictive it is. And I am definitely a caffeine addict. So, for me, it ended up coming full circle.”
In a separate profile, Sabrina also told Vogue, “The song is kind of about seeing femininity as your superpower and feeling confident in who you are.”
