Lorde said she was “hugely honoured” to be able to put an end to her feud with Charli XCX through song.
The 27-year-old chart-topper from New Zealand was the target of Charlie's latest song, “Girl, So Confusing,” which was inspired by the British star's jealousy of Charlie's chart success.
The song sparked a fierce debate between fans of the two groups, but they put an end to the controversy by releasing a remix with lyrics and vocals by Lorde.
Reflecting on the success of the critically acclaimed remix, Lorde told Billboard, “[The song]is two parts: a deep empathy for a friend and a feeling of, 'Oh, I've been misunderstood, and I really want to set it right.'”
“I first told her these things when I was writing this poem. There was such rawness and immediacy to what I was saying. I'm glad we were able to really capture that in the remix. There's something very sassy about it, something very meta and modern. Only Charlie could bring that to life.”
She added, “She opened a door between us that allowed me to say things I'd never said before, to articulate things I'd never said or heard before. All of this was a great honor for me.”
Charlie, 31, reportedly wrote the original version of the song to vent his jealousy over Lorde's success with her 2013 global hit, “Royals.”
Charlie's latest album, Brat, was released this month and has so far reached number two on the UK album charts, number three in the US and number four in New Zealand.
