Kesha began writing music to “deal with her emotions.”
The singer-songwriter, who recently returned to the music industry with 'Joy Ride', spoke about what first got him interested in music.
“I started writing songs to deal with my emotions,” Kesha told Forbes in a recent interview, “because I'm a very sensitive person and I'm a Pisces triplet, these emotions come up very intensely and people can express them in different ways.”
The 37-year-old “TiK ToK” hitmaker explained that he expresses his “anger” by making music.
“When I'm angry, anybody can smash a car window, but when I'm angry, I take it to the studio and I'm surrounded by incredibly trustworthy people who help me turn my emotions into songs,” Kesha said.
“So that's become the way I perceive my life, and the great thing about writing music or making any kind of art is that it allows you to perceive something, hopefully in a safe way,” the artist continued. “Once you get out of your body and put it on paper or on a microphone, maybe the healing that you experience can help someone else heal, if you're willing to share it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Kesha spoke passionately about the support she's received from LGBTQ+ fans.
“There would be no pop star without the queer community,” she told the magazine. “Justice is a big driving force in my life, and bullying is what infuriates me the most. I want to protect everyone until the day I die, and I will always fight for equal rights.”
Kesha left Dr. Luke's Kemosabe Records after a protracted legal battle and is now an independent artist, releasing Joy Ride on her own new label, Kesha Records.
