Jessica Simpson has begged her sister Ashley to record a new album.
Ashley, 39, followed in her pop star sister Jessica's footsteps into music, releasing three albums before turning to acting. After years away from the music industry, she returned to the stage on Saturday night (20.07.24) for a one-off performance at Evita Nightclub in West Hollywood, California. Video of her performance left her sister in tears.
Jessica shared footage of Ashley on stage on Instagram, writing, “Watched this last night and woke up this morning bawling like a fangirl nerd!!!”
“You're a rock star, Ash! You looked, sounded and moved like you'd never missed a stage. Just amazing! What an amazing moment with all your backing singers (and the whole audience)… I'm thrilled…”
Jessica has publicly begged Ashley to get back in the studio and record new music, and even suggested they go on tour together.
She added, “You were born for this! Let's make a record soon! Let's tour together and bring the kids! I'm so proud to be your sister!!! You're amazing! @ashleesimpsonross.”
Ashley took the stage to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut album, Autobiography, which was released on July 20, 2004. She also announced the release of an expanded version of the record, which will feature three songs that were not included on the original US version of the album.
Ashley told Stereogum, “The extended version is just songs that I didn't release stateside. Those are songs that I want to perform.” [like] “Harder Everyday.” I wish this song had been on Autobiography.
“I loved that song. I actually wrote it with John Feldman and the Madden brothers years ago, so I'll be including that song and a couple of other songs I wrote a while back.”
Ashley also revealed that she does have new music planned for the future and is hoping to schedule some live shows this year. She added: “I'm in the studio writing new music right now… so that should be out soon…”
“We'll be doing some actual shows in November, December and into the new year.”
