The “Without Me” hitmaker sampled the 2000 classic from Britney's hit album “Oops!… I Did It Again” in his song of the same name, claiming he would never have used the single without Britney's permission.
When asked if Britney had any involvement in getting the samples approved for X, Halsey wrote, “Of course! I would never dream of doing that without her permission!”
Halsey has previously spoken about how much Britney meant to her and how important this song was to them.
Halsey posted a photo of herself wearing a shirt that read “Lucky” on Instagram, writing, “When I was 5 years old, it felt like Britney was always singing directly to me. 24 years later, these words resonate in a different way. I love you forever.”
The 29-year-old singer had been teasing fans by posting photos and fake magazine covers in which she was dressed as troubled pop stars like Britney, 42.
Halsey recently released the emotional single “The End,” in which she revealed that she has lupus and a rare lymphoproliferative disorder.
The “Hym and I” singer, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane and who uses she/they pronouns, revealed to fans on Instagram last month ahead of the album's release that she's been battling serious health issues, but didn't reveal what they were specifically.
They later took to Instagram to thank their fans for their support and detailed the symptoms they've been battling.
Speaking about the release of her new song, Halsey said: “Thank you so much for all the incredible love for ‘The End’ and support you’ve shown since its release.
“I know everyone knows the news I've been hiding for a long time, but I wasn't sure how much I wanted to share.
“Since you're all so kind, I wanted to share a bit more. In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both are currently under control or in remission, but I will likely live with both for the rest of my life.
“It was difficult at first, but with the help of some amazing doctors I slowly got everything under control.
“Two years on, I'm feeling better and more grateful than ever to have music to fall back on.
“Can't wait to get back to where I belong and sing and scream my heart out with you all (grey heart emoji).”
