Clean Bandit are yet to release a song they recorded with Sir Elton John “a long time ago.”
The “Rockabye” hitmakers have an “extensive catalogue” of music they've recorded but kept secret, which includes collaborations with the “Tiny Dancer” singer and Sam Smith.
Grace Chatto told Principle magazine: “We have one song with Sam Smith and one with Elton John that we did a long time ago, but most of the songs don't feature the artist singing on them because we tend to write with lyricists and songwriters.”
“Most of the demos [singers] – Usually figuring out who will sing is the last step.
“But I've written songs with Sam Smith and I've written songs with Elton.
“It's always really great when the singer is also the lyricist, because it makes it a much more natural process for them than if we were to send them a direct message and say, 'Would you like to sing this?' And it's a bit hit or miss as to whether the lyrics resonate with them.”
The trio have previously worked with artists including Jess Glynne, Anne-Marie, Zara Larsson and Demi Lovato, but Grace explained that they try not to go into the songwriting process with a particular vocalist in mind.
She said: “Usually we do it in the DMs and then we usually think about the voice afterwards.”
“When you try to write a song for a specific voice, you end up with a bit of a mishmash of things you think that person might like. Whereas when you write a song in a pure way that's how it should be, and then when you listen to it, you know straight away who sings it well. And it's usually just Rihanna.”
Fans of the Symphony group will have to wait a while longer before seeing them perform again.
Grace said: “We’re currently working on a new show which is really exciting.
“However, as we are focused on working on music videos and songs we have no plans to perform in the UK or Europe this summer.
“We'll probably do one special show in London towards the end of the year, and then we'll tour again next year.”
