Thomas Matthew Crooks identified as Donald Trump assassin
The FBI has identified a 20-year-old man from western Pennsylvania, Thomas Matthew Crooks, as the man who plotted to assassinate former President Trump at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Crooks reportedly shot Trump from a rooftop about 130 yards away during a rally in the small town, striking him above the right ear as he was addressing rallygoers ahead of next week's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

“The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, age 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as a suspect in connection to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania,” the FBI said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “The investigation remains active.”

Further investigation revealed that Crooks had also been a member of the nearby Clairton Sportsman's Club for at least a year, according to a statement to Fox News from the gun club's attorney, Rob Bootey.
“In response to your email inquiry, we can confirm that Mr. Crooks was a member of the Clairton Sportsman's Club. Beyond that, the club cannot comment further on this matter due to the ongoing police investigation. Of course, the club fully condemns the senseless act of violence that occurred yesterday. The club also extends its heartfelt condolences to Mr. Comperatore's family and offers prayers to all those injured, including the former president,” said Rob Bootey, attorney for the Clairton Sportsman's Club.
Crooks is a 2022 graduate of Bethel Park High School and was one of nearly 20 students from the school to receive a $500 “STAR Award” from the National Math and Science Initiative.
According to The New York Times, an online recording of the ceremony showed him taking the stage to faint applause and briefly posing with school officials.

A Fox News Digital investigation found that Crooks would have turned 21 in September. He had no reported criminal or traffic violations, and no bankruptcies, liens or foreclosures.
According to voting records, Crooks was a registered Republican, but because of his age, he only participated in the Nov. 8, 2022 state election. Records also show that he donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project, a Chicago-based political action committee that supports Democratic candidates for public office and claims to advocate for “key Democratic constituencies: young people, minorities and low-income voters.”
