Summer is in full swing, and many music stars are adding to the season by releasing new music.

Childish Gambino said goodbye with his final album, Stone & the New World. The 17-track LP features a host of special guests, including Jorja Smith, Yate, Flo Milli, Steve Lacy, Husey and Amalae. “I always thought of Childish Gambino as like a character and I wanted to end it to some degree,” he explained in Hot Ones. “Childish Gambino is like the boss on The Office, and I'm like, 'That worked 10 years ago.' That all worked, but now it's like, 'Yeah, it's kind of sad, but wow, it's like the cycle is continuing and I think that's great.'”

Joe Jonas and Jade Thirwall released solo songs outside of the Jonas Brothers and Little Mix, respectively, to mark the end and beginning of their journeys: Thirwall dropped “Angel of My Dreams,” while Joe Jonas performed “Work It Out,” the lead single from his upcoming album, Music for People Who Believe in Love.

Griff's new album 'Vertigo' reaches career-best No. 3 position – Music News

Previous Brit Award New Star winner Griff has landed at number three with his debut full-length studio album, Vertigo, his highest ranking yet following his 2021 EP, One Foot In Front of The Other, which reached number four.

The singer, songwriter and musician marked the occasion by receiving an Official Top 10 award from The Official Charts.

Speaking to Official Charts, Griff said: “For everyone who has listened to my music and followed my journey, it's been a real rollercoaster ride. It means the world to me that you've supported me, bought the album, listened to it and streamed it. I love you all forever and hope to see you all on tour and sing the album with me.”

Eminem scored his 11th number one album with The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace).

Eminem's 45,000 chart units this week put him in line with David Bowie, Taylor Swift and U2, who each have 11 chart-topping albums.

Eminem's previous chart toppers are The Marshall Mathers LP (2000), The Eminem Show (2002), Encore (2004), Curtain Call: The Hits (2005), Relapse (2009), Recovery (2010), The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (2013), Revival (2017), Kamikaze (2018) and Music To Be Murdered By (2020).

Scottish rock band Travis has achieved their 10th Top 10 in the LA Times (4) and is this week's No. 1 album on the Official Record Store Charts.

Also making her debut in the top 10 this week is London-born singer-songwriter Cat Barnes with her debut album, Early Twenties (No. 7).

Having narrowly missed out on the Top 10, American dream pop band Cigarettes After Sex achieve their highest charting album of all time with X's, debuting at number 12 and their third Top 40 album, topping the Official Vinyl Albums chart. Atlanta-born singer Clairo follows close behind with her first Top 40 album with Charm.

Further down the list, Travis Scott's album Utopia re-enters the Top 40 (at No. 38) following two UK tour dates earlier this week, and finally John Lennon's 1973 solo album Mind Games finishes at No. 39. The album reached No. 13 on its original release.

Post Malone Hits the Quebec Festival and More Canadian Music Industry News

Post Malone played perhaps the biggest concert of the summer in North America on Friday, July 12th. He performed in front of over 100,000 people at the historic Plains of Abraham during the Festival de Quebec (FEQ) in Quebec City. This is a normal thing for FEQ, an annual 10-day event that brings together some of the biggest stars in a variety of genres, but outside of Quebec, he is relatively unknown.

Malone performed after opening sets from Canadian band Valley and up-and-coming pop/country artist Jesse Murph. His set began with the crowd singing along to “Sweet Caroline” before a string section heralded Post's entrance onto the stage. He kicked off with his 2018 hit “Better Now,” with giant fireworks erupting after each chorus. Over the next two hours, he played a variety of songs, from the Ozzy Osbourne-sampling “Take What You Want” to “Sunflower” and “Congratulations” to his recent hit “I Had Some Help,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

He performed some adorably silly dancing and reveled in the applause that followed each song, which seemed to freak him out. At one point, he summoned a Quebecer named Felix from the audience, who came onstage, drank from a red Solo cup and strummed an acoustic guitar as Post Malone sang “Stay.”

This year's FEQ took place from July 4 to 14, and featured headliners from 50 Cent to the Jonas Brothers, Nickelback to Zac Brown Band.

FEQ invites big-name artists to perform on its main stage, but artistic director Louis Bellavance says it's not enough to just bring in big names: “They all have a role to play in what we're creating,” he says.

He says it's all about finding the right genre and performance that resonates with Quebec audiences. Quebec audiences can be different than other parts of Canada and the U.S. — R&B isn't as popular as in other markets, and neither are many English-speaking Canadian rock bands — but that doesn't mean rock doesn't work. Mötley Crüe packed the stage on the final day, Sunday, July 14, with a more multigenerational audience than you'd expect for a band whose sound and performance peaked in the '80s.

New this year was a performance by Spanish artists on the main stage on Saturday night, featuring J Balvin, Iván Cornejo and GALE. FEQ has hosted Latino artists in the past, but never a showcase on such a large scale as this year's. It was clear people had traveled for the event, as Colombian superstar Balvin lit up the flag in the front row and fans came from Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Fans from Mexico, Spain, Peru, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Honduras and Colombia all “feel at home,” Balvin said.

Canadian Country Music Association Awards 2024 nominees: Jade Eagleson, Mackenzie Porter top the list

The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) has announced the official nominees for the CCMA Awards 2024. Topping the list of contenders are Jade Eagleson and Mackenzie Porter, who are nominated in six categories each, with the latter co-hosting the ceremony with American country star Thomas Rhett.

Following them are The Recklows and Josh Ross with five nominations each, followed by High Valley, Owen Lee Riegling and Dallas Smith with four each. Other notable Canadian artists on the list include Dean Brody, Steven Lee Olsen, James Barker Band, Brett Kissel, Tenille Townes and Lindsay Ell.

The awards ceremony will be held at 8pm ET on Saturday, September 14th at Rogers Place in Edmonton's downtown core and will broadcast on CTV.

Cast members include Dasha, Jade Eagleson, Brett Kissel, The LeCrows, Mackenzie Porter, Thomas Rhett and Dallas Smith, with more names to be announced.

The two main categories for the CCMA Awards are up for public vote by country music fans across Canada: This year's nominees for Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year are Haley Benedict, Dax, Teigen Gaze, Matt Lange and Owen Riegling, and fans can vote for their favourites at ccmafanvote.com.

The 2024 Fan's Choice nominees are Dean Brody, Jade Eagleson, High Valley, James Barker Band, Tyler Joe Miller, Steven Lee Olsen, Mackenzie Porter, The Reclaws, Josh Ross and Dallas Smith.

Schoolboy Q's Toronto show canceled due to feud with Drake and Kendrick Lamar

The canceled show appears to be related to rap music's biggest story of the year: the bitter feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

Schoolboy Q was scheduled to play a sold-out show at Toronto venue History on Thursday (July 18). However, Q announced to X on Wednesday that the show had been canceled due to a supposed feud. “Canadian police don't want anyone from TDE,” he said. [Lamar’s label] “Performing…” he wrote.

Schoolboy Q was once in the group Black Hippie with Kendrick Lamar and was a former labelmate on Top Dogg Entertainment (TDE). Lamar left the label last year. The venue's history is a partnership between Live Nation and Drake.

Q has since posted about the show several times, referencing PartyNextDoor's recent performance at the Hollywood Palladium in Lamar and Schoolboy's hometown of Los Angeles: “If you wanna wow people just do it…don't cry if someone gets hurt…”

Q later clarified that he thought the cancellation was funny and that the post was meant as advice, not a threat. “I never said 'kill someone' I just said smH would be fine if that's what you wanted to do,” he wrote. “I'm a soccer dad.”

Schoolboy Q, who performed at Lamar's Pop Out concert on June 14, also appeared briefly in Lamar's video for the Drake diss “Not Like Us,” reigniting the fading feud. Q and Lamar have been friends for a long time, having previously collaborated on Black Hippie with Jay Rock and Ab-Soul.

Drake followed up Q's post about X with an Instagram Story, leading some to speculate that he was making fun of the rapper. In the story shared, Drake appears to be wearing blue sandals, possibly referencing Schoolboy's single of the same name.

He's also wearing a shirt that reads “Free Yayo,” a reference to hip-hop artist Tony Yayo, who said in a recent interview that he doesn't want to get caught up in the Drake and Kendrick feud.

“I don't want to say anything about Drake and it sucks that I can't go to Canada,” he told VladTV.

No official reason for the cancellation was given, but the concert's event page on Ticketmaster states it was canceled by event organizers.

“The decision to cancel this event was made by the venue, not Toronto Police,” a Toronto police spokesperson said.

Billboard Canada has reached out to Live Nation for comment.

The reason for the cancellation was the recent attack on Rick Ross, who released the Drake diss track “Champagne Moments,” during a performance of “Not Like Us” at a concert in Vancouver. Drake liked a post about the incident at the time. – Rosie Long Decter

James Bay: “First taste of true musical freedom” while making new album, 'Changes All The Time' – Music News

The 'Hold Back The River' hitmaker recently released the track 'Up All Night' featuring Noah Kahan and the Lumineers, and has now confirmed that the follow-up to 2022's 'Leap' will be released on September 20th.

In a message sent to fans on his mailing list, James said: “I'm very happy to announce that my fourth album, Changes All The Time, will be released on September 20th!”

Making this album felt like I had my first taste of true musical freedom. With the help of Gabe (Simon, co-producer), I found the courage to create what I wanted to create in ways I'd never done before. It's a very hard thing to get there, but I'm really excited to release this music.”

In 2023, James released the songs “All My Broken Pieces” and “Goodbye Never Felt So Bad.”

James revealed early last year that he was in the early stages of writing his next album, which will feature more of his guitar playing.

The “Wild Love” hitmaker enjoyed playing acoustic guitar in a more raw way, like at open mic nights at the start of his career, but has since gone back to his roots.

He explained: “A lot of my heroes’ work was recorded in the first or second take, there was a carefree vibe. [nature]”'Let's just do it, express our emotions and move on to the next thing.' That's what I'm trying to do now.”

He continued in an interview with Guitar.com: “[Recording an album] A little at a time? I've done it a lot. I have a lot of respect for it, and it's worked for me in the past. But these days, I just stand in front of a microphone with an acoustic guitar, like I used to do at open mic nights. I'm just singing. No clicks or anything. It's just a performance. And it's fun! It's kind of liberating not to have to stress about the little things.”

James insisted that the lyrics and songs themselves are still important to him, but he is keen to improve his guitar skills.
He added: “I think I'm moving in a direction where I'm showcasing more guitar playing on my songs. So, [fans’ perceptions] It changes over time… but it depends on what the song means.

“For me, the song is still the most important thing: what the melody is doing, what the lyrics are saying, the performance and how I deliver the song. But I'm always on stage with a guitar, so in the studio, I'm trying to focus a little more on the guitar.”

The musician will also be embarking on the “Up All Night Tour.”

James will visit Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin and London before performing his first UK arena headline show at the OVO Arena Wembley on February 13th.
Tickets will go on general sale from 10am on July 26th.

Fox News Digital Beats CNN, New York Times and Other Big News Brands in Key Metrics in Q2

In Q2 2024, Americans turned to Fox News Digital for information and analysis, with the company finishing as the No. 1 news organization in both multiplatform watch minutes and multiplatform viewership during a historic three-month period.

The second quarter was the quarter in which President Biden began to face continuing questions about his mental fitness to serve as president following his debacle during a debate with former President Trump on June 27. The quarter also saw other historic events, including Trump's “hush money” trial and conviction, shocking anti-Semitism on college campuses across the country, Israel's ongoing war with Hamas terrorists, and the start of the trial of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich in Russia on espionage charges that have long been proven false.

At the same time, Fox News Digital ranked first in multiplatform watch time with an astounding 9.2 billion minutes. This marks the 13th consecutive quarter that Fox News Digital has outperformed all competing news brands in the category, including CBS News, NBC News, The Washington Post, ABC News, The New York Times, Insider and USA Today.

Fox News Digital took the No. 1 spot with 4.8 billion multiplatform views during the news-centric quarter, beating CNN's 3.4 billion. This marks the eighth consecutive quarter that Fox News Digital has led competing news brands in this key metric.

Fox News Digital averaged 104 million unique digital multiplatform visitors per month. On mobile apps, Fox News averaged 5.7 million unique visitors in the second quarter, while CNN averaged 4.6 million unique visitors.

In June, Fox News Digital also led both multiplatform watch time and viewership, marking the 40th consecutive month that it has been the No. 1 news brand in watch time.

Fox News Digital reached 1.6 billion multiplatform views, while CNN fell below 1 billion monthly views for the first time since February 2015.

According to the announcement, FOXBusiness.com recorded 514 million multiplatform views, beating CNN Business for the ninth consecutive quarter. The business network delivered 718 million multiplatform viewing minutes in the second quarter and averaged 24.5 million digital multiplatform unique visitors, a 4% increase in unique visitors year over year.

According to Emplifi, Fox News remained the most engaged brand on social media in Q2, recording 77.6 million total social interactions, retaining the top spot for the 41st consecutive quarter. Fox News drove 24.2 million interactions on Facebook (up 39% year-over-year), 47.8 million interactions on Instagram and 5.6 million interactions on X during the quarter. On YouTube, FOX News garnered 507.8 million views, according to Shareablee.

Homegrown music festival to take place Saturday, supporting community projects

The event will feature 11 musicians, food trucks, beer, wine and more.

(Lawrenceburg, IN) – The first annual Homegrown Music Festival will be held on Saturday, July 20th at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds.

The event will run from noon until 10pm and will feature live music, food and drink, and support a great cause.

Eleven musicians will perform throughout the day, starting with Rachel Holt at midday followed by Tyler Brindley, Keith Sweeney Band, Lacey Lane Band, Terry Hearn, Channel Cats, Michael T and Jenny Klemm, Union 22, Stoned Blue and headliner Austin Tyler Lee Band.

Parkside Market, Twister Tater, LA Sweets and Heaven in Your Mouth BBQ will have food trucks on-site, and Holtkamp Winery will be serving wines, as well as beer and soda.

Admission is $25 (with your bracelet you can come and go as you please), and all attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food item to support Feeding Those In Need.

Homegrown Music Festival is presented by Community Project, with all proceeds benefiting the nonprofit's mission to identify and raise awareness of the current and ongoing needs of southeastern Indiana residents.

Russia sentences American journalist Evan Gershkovich to 16 years in prison

A Russian court has handed down its verdict against Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich after more than a year of trial.

The court found the 32-year-old Gershkovich guilty of “collecting secret information” while covering a trip to the Ural Mountain city of Yekaterinburg.

He was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Prosecutors alleged that Gershkovich worked at the behest of the CIA to gather secret information about the Uralvagonzavod plant, which makes and repairs tanks and other military equipment, about 90 miles north of Yekaterinburg.

The US government has labelled Gershkovich as “unlawfully detained” and is seeking his immediate release through diplomatic channels. Gershkovich himself denies all the charges, as does The Wall Street Journal.

“Evan's wrongful detention has been outrageous since his wrongful arrest 477 days ago and must end now,” The Wall Street Journal said in a statement Thursday.

The statement continued, “Despite Russia orchestrating a shameful show trial, we urge Evan's immediate release; he was carrying out his job as a journalist. Journalism is not a crime. Bring him home now.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously suggested swapping the journalist for Vadim Krasikov, a Russian national who was jailed in 2019 for the murder of a Berlin-based Georgian who fought against Russian forces in Chechnya.

The judges said Krasikov acted on instructions from Russian authorities.

Kim Gordon is 'not a real fan' of Taylor Swift – Music News

Kim Gordon admits she's “not a real fan” of Taylor Swift.

In an interview with The Guardian published on Wednesday, the Sonic Youth singer was asked to name his “most controversial” opinion on pop culture.

“I don't know if this is controversial, but I'm not a Taylor Swift fan,” she replied. “I don't actually know what her music is like.”

However, Kim did say that she likes Billie Eilish's music.

“When it comes to pop icons, I'd choose Billie Eilish,” the 71-year-old continued.

Meanwhile, Kim was asked about artists who influenced her as a young musician.

Although she maintained that she never wanted to go into the music industry, she named several influential people.

“When I was a teenager, I listened to Billie Holiday and Joni Mitchell, but I never thought I could be a musician. I never studied music, I didn't know anything about it. There were definitely artists that influenced me, but not necessarily women – Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, Andy Warhol,” she explained.

Despite her international success and sold-out tours, Taylor hasn't garnered industry-wide support.

Earlier this year, Courtney Love made headlines after expressing her polarizing opinions about the pop star.

“Taylor isn't important,” she told The Standard. “She may be a safe space for girls, she's probably the Madonna of today, but as an artist she's not interesting.”

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman make cameo appearances in Stray Kids' “Chk Chk Boom” video

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have been hard at work promoting the upcoming Marvel movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, and the pair's latest appearance is in Stray Kids' new music video for “Chk Chk Boom,” in which the actors play a weather forecaster and a news anchor for a fictional network.

In the clip, the band performs the song on rooftops and in the streets before and after the actors' antics (including some very impressive dance moves). “Chk Chk Boom” is the lead single from Stray Kids' new mini-album, ATE, which was also released today. While Reynolds and Jackman appear in this particular music video, Stray Kids actually contribute another song, “Slash,” to the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack.

The eight-member K-pop group has had past interactions with Deadpool and Reynolds: In 2021, Stray Kids appeared on the Korean music reality show “Kingdom: Legendary War” and performed a mashup of their hit song “God's Menu” and Blackpink's “DDU-DU DDU-DU” as a homage to Deadpool. This caught Reynolds' attention, and he began a conversation with the band on social media.

Earlier this month, Reynolds and Jackman mingled with musicians while promoting the film in South Korea, with Reynolds posting a video of himself with bandmates Felix and Bang Chan, captioning it, “That's what they say in Seoul: 'Chk Chk Boom.'”

The soundtrack for Deadpool & Wolverine, which hits theaters on July 26, also includes Jackman's own “The Great Show” from The Greatest Showman, Goo Goo Dolls' “Iris” and 'N Sync's “Bye Bye Bye.”

Earlier this year, Stray Kids released the collaborative single “Lose My Breath” with Charlie Puth, part of a very busy year they previewed in January that includes two albums and a world tour.
