Taylor Swift announces end date for Eras Tour – Music News

Taylor Swift has officially announced when her Eras tour will end.

The singer confirmed the news on Thursday during the tour's 100th show in Liverpool, England.

“This is the first time I've ever accepted that this tour is going to end in December,” she said.

“I used to have a hobbies,” she joked to the crowd, before adding, “You all did so much to be with us. You planned it way in advance. You planned what you were going to wear. You memorized the lyrics. To get here. You found parking. You found transportation. I want to spend my 100th show thinking about that, living in the moment, being here with you all. And when this show hits triple digits, I want you to know that we appreciate all of the effort that you all put in to be with us. Thank you so much!”

The Erasus Tour has been making history since it began in March 2023. It has grossed $1 billion (£783,530,638 million), making it the highest-grossing tour of all time.

A film based on the show was released in October, which brought in an additional $261.6m (£204.9m).

The 34-year-old Taylor Swift, a 14-time Grammy Award winner, was officially declared a billionaire in April.

The three-hour Eras Tour performance will feature 44 songs from 11 albums. When the band released their 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” in April, the show included new songs from the album.

Former MSNBC host: “The real problem is half the country supports Trump and Republicans support their voters.”

Donny Deutsch on Thursday slammed “half the country” and said Republicans have led the GOP in a bad direction.

MSNBC's Jonathan Lemire asked whether Republican leaders' meeting with Trump, despite their past criticism of him, was “symbolic of how rotten the Republican Party is right now.”

“We've been doing this dance for eight years with a range of Republicans, from mean-spirited to lack of character to complete duplicity and fraud,” said journalist Mike Barnicle, who argued that the Republican Party he knew is gone. “One party, a major party, is gone and faded and means nothing to a lot of people today. I don't know how to rebrand it.”

Deutsch, by contrast, argued that voters were to blame.

Donny Deutsch slammed Republicans on a recent episode of MSNBC's “Morning Joe.”

“The real issue is not the parties themselves, but the voters who are affiliated with political parties, which was 74 million in the last election,” Deutsch said. “Trump is ahead in the polls this time, but not by much.”

“The real question, and the most troubling thing, and I know a lot of Trump supporters, is the party is speaking for itself. They're transparent and we can see that. Other than Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney, and as we've just seen with Paul Ryan, I don't think there's any Republican who has strayed from or gone against 'Fearless Leadership,'” he said, appearing to be a sarcastic reference to Trump.

Deutsch added that the fact that voters know exactly what they're getting from Trump and the Republican Party, yet half still support them, is what keeps him up at night.

Another lawmaker has called on the governor of New York to pardon former President Trump, this time coming from a Republican Party.

New York Rep. Claudia Tenney on Thursday sent a letter to New York's Democratic governor, Kathy Hockle, asking her to pardon former President Trump following his conviction last month.

The lawsuit “undermines the fairness and integrity of our once-respected judicial system and cannot be allowed to continue unchecked,” Tenney said.

The congressman also suggested that Bragg may have broken the law in pursuing his case against Trump: Bragg “used a distorted version of events to advance trumped-up charges in 'The People v. Trump,'” a ruling that he wrote was “legally questionable at best and criminal at worst.”

Tenney noted that Democrats were among those who first urged her to pardon Trump.

“My fellow Minnesota Democrat, Rep. Dean Phillips, has also called for pardoning President Trump. Pardoning President Trump is not a partisan issue; it is an American issue that is necessary to preserve the integrity of our justice system.”

In other pardon news, President Biden on Thursday reiterated that he will not pardon Hunter's son after a Delaware jury found him guilty of federal crimes. Biden also said he will not commute Hunter's sentence, which has yet to be determined.

Tejano music legend and TV icon dies at 77

Johnny Canales, the iconic television host who dedicated his career to popularizing Norteño and Tejano music in the United States, has died at the age of 77. The announcement was made on his Facebook page on Thursday (June 13).

“He was more than just a beloved husband, father, television host, musician and entertainer; he was a beacon of hope and joy to countless people,” the message read. “His infectious charisma and dedication to promoting Latin music and culture left an indelible mark on the world. Johnny's spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched and the legacy he created.”

The Johnny Canales Show was an important platform for Mexican regional music artists such as Los Tigres del Norte, Los Relamágos del Norte and Intocable, and was also a driving force behind Selena's career. “If you've got it, take it” was one of Canales' most famous phrases, often used on air to encourage artists in the early stages of their careers.

Born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas at a young age and discovered a passion for music at an early age, becoming a singer, but it was as a TV host that she rose to stardom.

From 1988 to 1996, his shows aired on the Univision network, making him a cultural standard-bearer for immigrants as his shows reached thousands of Mexicans living in the U.S. In 1997, he joined Telemundo, where he worked for several years, and later began having his own shows air on the company's network.

However, after suffering a stroke in 2008 that robbed him of mobility, Canales' health began to decline, forcing him to give up broadcasting. In early 2024, Canales appeared on the network in a state of precarious health, reporting from his home that he was stable. However, Canales continued to grow weaker until his final days.

Fake news still has a place on Facebook

On the morning of January 6, 2021, Christopher Blair's fake news empire was running smoothly.

Blair reached millions of people each month by posting false news about the Democratic Party and the election on Facebook, making as much as $15,000 in one month.

But his growing business came to an abrupt halt after a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Facebook, seemingly acknowledging its role in inciting the riots, tweaked its algorithms to limit the spread of political content, fake or not. Blair saw his engagement plummet.

“It just collapsed. Everything politically collapsed for about six months,” he said.

But now Mr Blair is fully recovered and even better: False posts he claims are satirical and mocking Conservatives are attracting more attention than ever on Facebook, having already soared to 7.2 million so far this year, compared with 1 million for all of 2021.

Blair weathered the Facebook adjustment by pivoting away from politics and toward culture war topics like Hollywood elites and social justice issues.

For example, when Robert De Niro appeared before a Manhattan courthouse last month to criticize former President Donald J. Trump, Mr. Blair rushed to publish a false post alleging that the conservative actor had called Mr. De Niro “horrible” and “ungodly.” The post was shared nearly 20,000 times.

Many of the writers like him who post false stories on fringe websites and social media accounts to drive clicks and advertising revenue also lean into culture war topics: So far this year, only a quarter of Facebook content rated “false” by the fact-checking website PolitiFact was about politics or politicians, while nearly half was about issues like transgender athletes, liberal celebrities or alternative medicine.

The success of these posts highlights a growing reality on Facebook and similar platforms: fake news still finds an audience online.

The shift has been so successful that Blair has seen a host of competitors emerge, many of which are calling their posts “satire,” copying his content and using artificial intelligence tools to enhance their own posts.

“There was some progress after the events of January 6th, but then that progress quickly receded,” said Paul Barrett, a law professor at New York University who studies online disinformation. “I actually think we're more vulnerable to this now than we were in the spring of 2021.”

A spokesperson for Meta, which is owned by Facebook, responded by highlighting the company's misinformation policy and efforts to combat false information by limiting the spread of certain low-quality content.

Surviving on Facebook

Mr Blair, 52, a former construction foreman, describes himself as a liberal.

Blair doesn't consider his work fake news; he has long defended himself as a comedian who goads conservative Facebook users into believing clearly questionable news, including through profiles in The Washington Post and The Boston Globe. He likens his work to that of British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, who frequently mocks conservative Americans. Blair puts a small “satire” label on every image he posts to Facebook.

But his headlines are often indistinguishable from the many falsehoods posted on social networks.

Facebook allows satirical pages, whether or not they use the “satire” label, but the term has also become a popular defense for fake news operators, who typically identify themselves as satirical only in a discreet section of their Facebook pages, or sometimes omit it entirely.

“It's a game of cat and mouse,” said David Lazer, a professor at Northeastern University who studies disinformation. “If there are loopholes in enforcement, that's where activity will go.”

Facebook's attempts to limit the spread of political content have prompted Blair and his contributors to seek a new approach.

“We were killing Hillary Clinton every Saturday in the most ridiculous way,” said Joe LaForme, a 48-year-old truck driver who identifies as a liberal and contributes to Blair's Facebook page. “She was being run over by a monster truck at a monster truck rally.”

“We stopped doing that because Facebook is trying to limit the spread of political content,” he added.

Blair currently posts dozens of false stories to social networks every week on his main account, which has more than 320,000 followers and 225,000 likes. The posts feature a wide variety of celebrities, including actors such as Tim Allen and Whoopi Goldberg, and musicians such as Jason Aldean and Kid Rock. They often stage dramatic but completely fictitious feuds around the culture wars. One April post, which claimed Beyoncé was criticized for “dressing up” by releasing country music, was shared more than 50,000 times and generated 28,000 comments.

“If they're on the right, I reward them. If they're on the left, I punish them,” Blair said in a telephone interview. “That's the way I operate.”

This isn't the only pivot Blair has had to make. After Facebook began down-ranking posts that linked to low-quality websites, Blair started posting only images and memes. Now, if a post is likely to be a hit, he adds the link as a pinned comment.

“I know exactly what happened in any given situation and why it happened,” Blair said of the ups and downs of his Facebook posts. “I'm always adjusting.”

This shift in policy has rippled across the industry, with similar falsehoods appearing on Facebook pages with larger audiences, such as “Donald Trump is My President,” which has more than 1.8 million followers. Some of the posts are being shared directly to groups filled with conservatives, including fan pages for right-wing anchors Tucker Carlson and Jesse Watters.

Many of these accounts describe themselves as news organizations: NewsGuard, a company that tracks online disinformation, identified 15 accounts with names like “Daily News” and “Breaking News USA” that are sharing false information about companies like Disney, Paramount, Nike and Tyson Foods.

“There's a ton of headlines being generated every day,” said Coulter Palmer, an analyst at NewsGuard, which conducted the survey. “There's a ton of culture war stories.”

Racing with AI

Now Blair faces stiff competition from websites that use AI tools to write fake stories about the public figures and culture war issues he covers: NewsGuard has identified nearly 1,000 websites that use AI tools to write unreliable news articles, up from 138 a year ago.

The competition also includes SpaceXMania, a competing network of Facebook pages with at least 890,000 followers.

“My material, my characters, my keywords, my hot buttons, they take it all,” Blair said of the latest plagiarism. “They just feed it into an AI program and it spits out a headline. There's nothing original about it.”

When Blair recently wrote a false article about NFL player Harrison Butker, who has attracted national attention for his conservative views on women, SpaceX enthusiasts quickly followed up with their own article about Butker, garnering hundreds of thousands more comments than Blair.

The operator of SpaceXMania is based in Pakistan and goes by the name Shabayah, according to Facebook messages between him and Blair shared by The New York Times, in which he cited Blair as a “role model” for his startup.

“I'm a liberal troll and social justice warrior with a mission to spread satirical nonsense,” Blair said. “He's peddling fake news from Pakistan to American conservatives for profit.”

A SpaceXMania representative initially responded to the email but stopped responding after a reporter sent him questions.

A Times analysis, using software to detect AI-written text, found that many of the SpaceXMania articles were written entirely by artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT.

“He's probably using mine most effectively,” Blair said. “He's trying to get away from the AI, but he's never going to get away from it.”

Coldplay releases first single from 'Moon Music', 'Feels Like Im Falling In Love'

Coldplay is gearing up to usher in the era of moon music. On Thursday (June 13), the band announced that “Feels Like Im Falling In Love,” the first single from their follow-up to 2021's Music of the Spheres, will be released on June 21. In a teaser, the unwieldy song title is painted over the surface of a fading planet, with a colorful corona erupting from its surface.

The band debuted the anthemic track from their 10th studio album last week, posting a 20-second TikTok of singer Chris Martin singing the chorus in front of a neon-lit Ferris wheel, whispering, “I feel like I'm falling in love/You threw me a lifeline/Oh this isn't the first time/I know I'm not alone.” The beginnings of Coldplay's unfolding of their next artistic phase continued at last weekend's show at Rome's Olympic Stadium, where they handed out flyers with lyrics from the new song.

They also performed the uplifting song at one of their concerts, as evidenced by another TikTok of adoring fans singing along as if the song was one of their favorites, and another video of what appears to be a video shoot for the song. “Incredible crowd continues singing along to new song long after video shoot is over,” they captioned another TikTok, in which the crowd appears to be lit up with neon bracelets and the band is covered in glowing lights during the shoot.

At the time of writing, Coldplay had yet to announce a release date or tracklist details for Moon Music, which singer Martin has been talking about for nearly a year. In January 2023, Martin told Toronto City News that the band was nearing completion of their then-promised second album in their Music of the Spheres series. “It won't be out for a while though,” Martin said at the time, although he did hint that the band “may” start performing some of the new songs live that year.

The Endless Spheres world tour kicked off in Costa Rica on March 18th, 2022 and is currently scheduled to conclude with the second of two shows at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand on November 16th.

Italian lawmakers brawl in parliament: Video

Violent fighting has reportedly broken out in the Italian parliament, forcing a lawmaker to leave the chamber in a wheelchair.

According to Politico, the incident happened on Wednesday during a vote on a controversial government bill that would give more autonomy to Italy's local governments. The incident reportedly began when Leonardo Donno of the Five Star Movement, an opponent of the reforms, shoved an Italian flag in the face of Regional Government Minister Roberto Calderoli.

The video then shows two House of Representatives members trying to stop the pair, but other members joined the fight, with one of them seen punching Mr Dono.

“I received a lot of kicks and a very hard punch to the sternum, I couldn't breathe and collapsed,” Dono was quoted as telling local media by Politico.

The Hezbollah terror group launched a flurry of rockets and explosive drones into Israel on Thursday, triggering a “non-stop alert” on Israel's warning app.

The barrage is the second major rocket attack that Hezbollah has suffered within days, and comes in an escalation after Israel killed a top Hezbollah commander, Sami Taleb Abdullah, in an airstrike this weekend.

“Hezbollah is targeting northern Israel with more rockets and drones and is on constant alert,” Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst wrote Thursday.

Israel reported no injuries in the attacks on Wednesday and Thursday.

'Suspicious Minds' lyricist Mark James dies at age 83 – Music News

Mark James, the songwriter who wrote Elvis Presley's “Suspicious Minds” and co-wrote “Always on My Mind,” has died at the age of 83.

The Grammy Award winner, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014, died in Nashville on June 8, according to the Houston Chronicle.

His family said: “Mark's legacy and passion for life will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and through his timeless lyrics and melodies that have soundtracked lovers' nights for generations.”

“He was a captivating storyteller with the kindest smile, an infectious laugh and a glow that never faded.”

Best known as the writer of “Suspicious Minds,” Mark actually released the song in 1968 to launch his own music career, but it didn't become a hit until the late King of Rock and Roll took it to the top of the charts.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal in 2012 about the inspiration behind the emotive lyrics, Mark said: “Late one night, I was messing around on my Fender guitar, using a Hammond organ pedal as a bass line, when a catchy melody came to me. At the time, I was married to my first wife, but I still had feelings for a childhood sweetheart who had been married in Houston.

“It was a confusing time for me because my wife suspected that I had these feelings. All three of us felt caught in a trap that we couldn't get out of.”

The song became Elvis' 18th and final number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1999, the song, which Elvis recorded for RCA Victor Records in 1969, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

According to Mark, the “Hound Dog” hitmaker was always asking him to write more songs.

He recalls: “For the next few years, whenever I met Elvis, no matter who he was with, he would just walk across the room and say hello to me. I heard after he died that he was always asking the guys in the studio, 'Has Mark sent you any other songs?' Oh, I wish I'd known that.”

Mark was born Francis Zambon but changed his name after being told he wouldn't make it in the music industry.

He also wrote “The Eyes of a New York Woman” and “Hooked on a Feeling” for the album On My Way by the late BJ Thomas, best known for the classic “Raindrops Keep Fallen on My Head.”

Lee Ann adds new single “Nature” to EP, announces October tour – Music News

Lee Ann has released her latest solo single, “Nature.”

The track appears on her recently released EP, No Hard Feelings, and the former Little Mix star debuted the new track at her first solo live show at London's Lafayette this week.

She said about the song, “As a thank you to everyone for all the love and support so far, I'm adding a brand new song to this project – 'Nature'. I couldn't be happier performing this song live for the very first time last night at my first ever headline show. This is another really special song that came out of my writing camp in Jamaica and I'm very proud of it.”

The “Don't Say Love” singer has also announced a short tour for October, including a show at Koko in London on October 28th.

Advance tickets will go on sale on June 19th, with general ticket sales starting June 21st.

Leigh-Anne recently admitted that despite Little Mix's massive success, it's been tough building a solo career, especially with the rise of TikTok.

She told Amazon Music's +44 podcast, “It's been a tough transition. I remember when I made 'Shout Out To My Ex,' streaming was starting to take off and it was really popular. I'm a very old-school person, so I guess I'm trying to get used to it, but with social media and TikTok, it's such an important part of any campaign. You have to make time for that. Before, it was like, Oh, forget about the time, I'll just do it.”

Leigh-Anne acknowledges that not all Little Mix fans will love her solo songs.

She added: “It's incredible what Little Mix have achieved and what we have achieved. We're so amazing. But now I'm on my own and I don't have all the Little Mix fans following me. I have to build a new fanbase. Yeah, so I feel like a new artist in a way…”

Since making her big screen debut in 2021's Christmas romantic comedy Boxing Day, Leigh-Anne has been auditioning for more film roles as well as releasing new music.

She said: “I've auditioned a few times, but I'm very busy at the moment and I want to focus on my solo career and do that.”
