KT Tunstall 'totally surprised' by Azealia Banks tribute – Music News

KT Tunstall was “totally surprised” when Azealia Banks asked Beyoncé to collaborate on 'Cowboy Carter'.

The Scottish singer-songwriter admitted he was shocked that Azealia knew about him, saying he was surprised by the rapper's compliment because “Azealia doesn't really give compliments.”

She told NME: “I was really flattered because Azealia doesn't normally say such nice things about people. I was really surprised. I'm glad she knows me. I'm not as mainstream as a lot of people but Suddenly I See was obviously a big hit and I was really flattered. It was a great compliment.”

“I occasionally DJ and every time I do, '212' is a must. She's an extremely talented girl, taking on the world every day.”

However, when asked if Beyoncé had taken Azealia's advice and asked him to collaborate, KT admitted that she hadn't been contacted.

She joked: “I can't stop the phone from ringing, I have to put it on silent, so no.”

While KT has always enjoyed Azealia's music, he revealed that he's also a “huge fan” of Maggie Rogers.

She said: “I'm a big fan of Maggie Rogers from America. She's a total nerd. She's the best learner, she's got a great mind and a great heart. I love Shula and I know she's working on something new.”

“I love this John Lennon quote: 'It's not our job to tell people how they should feel, it's our job to tell people how we feel'. That's the bottom line. You shouldn't write songs to please someone, but rather strive to be as honest and authentic as possible in your songwriting.”
