Ringo Starr asked his producer to write more upbeat songs for his new EP.
The 83-year-old rocker collaborated with Linda Perry, who wrote and produced all four songs on his latest project Crooked Boy, and admitted he sent her notes to keep the tracks positive.
He told Variety: “There was a lot of emotion in 'February Sky' because it was all about dark skies all over the place in February. But I said to her, 'There's got to be a crack in the sky. , and the sun is coming out 'Cause all my songs say, 'I'm down, I'm this, I'm that… But things are getting better, things are going up. This is because it includes “being present”. They always have a positive side.
“”Rewind” [the title song of his previous EP, from 2023] it was. “Rewinding forward” means that when you're feeling high, it sometimes helps to step back a little, find some space, and continue from that moment. ”
Ringo also revealed that he requested more rock songs.
he said: “I did.[Initially]she wrote 'Crooked Boy,' and it was all about the story of my life. You know, I was sick, and I got better, I found my way.”
“She sent me some songs, and then I called her and said, 'Linda, write a rock song!'” And she says, “What is that?” I said, “I'll leave it at that. Write a rock song.” And of course she did, and it's called “Gonna Need Someone,” and it was rock, and she got the band together, and we played that song. I took a video while doing so, and we dove in. ”
