Ice Spice 'wasn't upset' over Matty Healy podcast controversy – Music News

Ice Spice has insisted he was “not bothered at all” about the Matty Healy podcast controversy.

In February 2023, the 1975 frontman made headlines when he appeared on the podcast “The Adam Friedland Show” and laughed at a racist joke about the rapper.

Recounting the incident in an interview published in Rolling Stone on Thursday, Ice (whose real name is Isis Gaston) stressed that Mattie had “apologised profusely” to her and that she had moved on.

“I was actually super late on that,” she said. “I didn't find out until maybe a month later.”

“He apologized profusely, but I didn't realize how big a deal it was to other people,” the 24-year-old continued. “I think everyone just wanted a reason to be upset. I wasn't angry or sad. I was just kind of confused. I didn't care about that at all.”

Ice also claimed that he still listens to The 1975's music and is a “huge fan.”

During a concert in New Zealand in April 2023, Matty publicly apologized to Ice for his involvement in the controversy.

“I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm sorry Ice Spice. It's not because I'm annoyed that I was making a joke and it was misconstrued, it's because I don't want Ice Spice to think I'm mean,” he said. “Ice Spice, I love you…I don't care if I'm naughty or whatever, but I don't want you to think I'm mean.”

He added, “We all make mistakes. I just had to do it publicly and apologise to Ice Spice. My life is a bit weird but I am truly sorry if I offended her because I love her dearly.”

Ice Spice's debut album, “Y2K,” was released on Friday.
