Kim Wilde was forced to find a “way around” Brexit restrictions on musicians.
The 63-year-old 1980s sensation singer, who will tour the UK in March 2025 with support from Cutting Crew, said she and her group, like millions of other musicians, have struggled to tour across Europe since Britain voted to leave the European Union.
When asked by BANG Showbiz if the fallout from the 2020 Brexit referendum had hurt her and her advocacy group, she replied: “We found a way around it. There were some issues that had to be sorted out, and sometimes they were complicated.”
“But luckily it's nothing we couldn't overcome.”
Kim's comments come as a survey suggests almost half of British musicians and people working in the music industry have fewer jobs in the EU since Brexit than before.
The survey also found that more than a quarter have no work in the EU at all.
Experts from the Association of Independent Musicians, which carried out the survey, said Brexit restrictions were destroying opportunities for musicians to make a living.
Kim hit the charts at the age of 20 with her debut single “Kids in America” and admitted she was so famous she had to turn down the opportunity to work as a sales rep at her local record store.
She told the Daily Mirror: “My mum sent me to an employment agency and they asked me, 'What do you want to do?'”
“I said, 'I want to work in a record store.
“A few months later a record store in Hertford needed an assistant and the Jobcentre sent me my details.
“I was pretty confident I'd get the job because I had a vast knowledge of music. It was like having a record shop in my house.”
“But Kids in America ruined my plans.
“I was poised to get my dream job and then a hit record took it away from me.”
