Ingrid Andress apologizes for singing the national anthem

Ingrid Andres was referring to the controversial performance of the national anthem at the Home Run Derby.

In a statement shared on social media, Andres wrote, “I'm not going to lie. I was drunk last night. I will be checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

She later apologized for the performance, saying, “Last night was not me. I apologize to MLB, all my fans and this country that I love for that performance. I will let everyone know what rehab is like. I hear it's a lot of fun.”

Her post received a lot of support from her fans.

Andres, a four-time Grammy-nominated country singer, was criticized on Monday for singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” out of tune. In a video shared from the annual home run batting competition in Arlington, Texas, Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm could be seen trying to stifle laughter. Boos could also be heard from the crowd as Andres struggled to hit the high notes. The performance has since gone viral, with many comparing her national anthem to Fergie's similarly controversial singing at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.

While Andress may not be a household name, he's no newcomer to the music industry. The country singer has been nominated for a Grammy four times, and in 2021, he competed against now-famous artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Doja Cat for Best New Artist, but ultimately lost to Megan Thee Stallion. Two of Andress' singles have charted on the Billboard Hot 100: “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking.” He also co-wrote Charli XCX's hits “Boys” and Bebe Rexha's “Girl in the Mirror.”
