Cara Delevingne has spoken out about her struggles.
The model-turned-actress has been sober for almost two years and detailed her health journey in a new interview with The Sunday Times, including admitting she was once drunk at the age of eight.
The conversation began with reporter Vassi Chamberlain recalling first meeting Delevingne at a wedding in 2001, where Chamberlain was a guest and Delevingne was a bridesmaid.

“I was drunk that day,” she said. “I was eight years old, which is a crazy age to be drunk.”
Just two years later, Delevingne began her modeling career with a photoshoot for Italian Vogue, and shortly thereafter, she began partying in earnest.
Delevingne told Vogue last year: “I definitely had a happy childhood but then I looked back as an adult and realised that wasn't normal. Then everything took a nosedive in my teens. That's when I started drinking and partying. I was hit with big questions – what am I doing here? Who do I want to be? And I had a desire to escape reality and make a change.”

The “Suicide Squad” actress explained to The Times, “I thought drugs and alcohol would help me, but they didn't. They just made me sad and deeply depressed. Now I feel like I have my power back, and I'm not controlled by other things.”

Delevingne comes from a well-known London family; her father, Charles, is a property developer and the son of socialite Angela Delevingne. One of her sisters, Poppy, is an actress and model, and her mother, Pandora, was also a socialite.
Pandora has also spoken openly about her issues with addiction.

“I think as I get older I see more and more similarities between me and my mother,” Delevingne explained. “My mother has overcome a lot. She's a very wise person. I think there are really beautiful things about her and really sad things about her, and that complicates it.”
The model also spoke about the March fire that destroyed her Los Angeles home, and how she would have reacted if she hadn't been drunk.

“It sucks, but everyone was safe and like anything else, if I wasn't sober I would still be upset about it. I would still be really, really hurt by it,” she said. “Obviously I'm hurt by it and I'm really sad about it and I always will be, but I'm not using it as a way to make myself sad.”

Delevingne was in London performing in the play “Cabaret” at the time, and there were people inside the house when the fire broke out, one of whom died from smoke inhalation.
