It was confirmed on social media last night (24th June) that Smith will be attending and performing at the upcoming awards ceremony, marking his first time attending the show since 2005.

Variety reports that the actor will perform an unreleased original song, but little is known about the performance. The 2024 BET Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 30.

Musically best known for “Gettin' Jiggy Wit It,” “Men in Black” and “Wild Wild West,” Will Smith hasn't released an album since 2005. His last solo release was 2017's “Get Lit,” and his most recent work was the Joyner Lucas cut “Will (Remix)” in 2020. Smith joined J Balvin onstage at Coachella in April to perform “Men in Black.”

Earlier this month, singer-songwriter Teddy Swims revealed to NME that he recently recorded a song with his “hero,” Will Smith. “I don't know what it's going to be, I can't say anything for sure, but it's been awesome to be with him and learn knowledge and wisdom from someone who's been through it all,” he said. “He's just the sweetest guy,” the Atlanta-born soul-pop singer-songwriter added.

In his two-star review of Bad Boys Ride or Die for NME, James Mottram wrote: “Martin Lawrence and Will Smith reunite in Bad Boys Ride or Die, a noisy and uninteresting fourth installment made bearable by some raucous action scenes.”
