Legendary electronic band The Prodigy closed out the main stage last night (Friday) with a mind-blowing set, playing iconic songs such as “Breathe,” “Out Of Space” and “Firestarter,” while bandmate Keith Moon's special laser projections were beamed into the audience.
On Friday the main stage opened up and a day of music began. Kicking off the event was Beatles tribute band The Bootleg Beatles, followed by indie up-and-comers The K's and classic rock n' rollers The Darkness. As the sun began to set, Australian rock band Crowded House performed much-loved tunes such as “Don't Dream It's Over” and “Weather With You”. Mike Skinner brought his esteemed musical project The Streets to the island to not only perform anthems such as “Dry Your Eyes” and “Fit But You Know It”, but also stepped into the pit to the delight of the festival crowd, much to the delight of Isle of Wight festival-goers.
On the Big Top stage, Johnny Marr performed classics from The Smiths and his own diverse solo material. Legendary band The Pretenders closed the Big Top with an exhilarating set including songs like “Let The Sun Come In,” “Up The Neck” and “Kid.” Lucky fans in the tent were also treated to special renditions of “Back on the Chain Gang” and “Don't Get Me Wrong” by Johnny Marr on guitar.
Dressed in costumes inspired by this year's 'Summer Solstice' theme, people will gather at Strawberry Fields at 3pm today (Saturday 22 June) to compete to be crowned the festival's best dressed. The display of flower crowns, fairy wings and midsummer folklore-inspired costumes will be hosted and judged by Cirque du la Queen's Miss Molly McQueen.
For the rest of the weekend, fans will be treated to a host of fantastic performances across 13 stages, with headline acts including Pet Shop Boys, Green Day, Suede and 90s anthems from Joe Whiley.
Four days of music and entertainment will see over 55,000 people pack the festival grounds for another weekend of unforgettable moments and memories.
