Russell Crowe enjoys his “anarchic” performance in Indoor Garden Party.
The Gladiator actor will be making his Glastonbury Festival debut with his band next weekend, and says the freedom of being on stage is a stark contrast to the “controlled” nature of being on a film set.
Speaking to Sky News, Russell said: “Film sets are very regimented. You have to respect the film gods, be extremely prepared and do your research. For example, just recently I did a 17-page scene with an actor and it takes an enormous amount of preparation and quiet deliberation to be there.”
“It doesn't matter what you've prepared – the audience's reaction and everything else is orchestrated and the show goes ahead. You never know what's going to happen, and that kind of chaos is really fascinating.”
The Oscar-winning actor urged audiences at his Worthy Farm show to forget about their acting careers and come enjoy the music.
The 60-year-old star said: “We're going to blow the place up. It's like we're going to leave all the celebrity crap and the fame that we've gained from other jobs behind. You're going to see serious bands. There are a lot of monster musicians there who know what they're doing.”
Russell explained that while a successful acting career has seen him appear in films like A Beautiful Mind and L.A. Confidential, his music career has lasted much longer.
He said: “Before I got into feature films I spent many years touring and playing in pubs and clubs.
“In fact, when I first started (acting), I never thought I'd ever be in a feature film.”
